This probably the first song that someone else wrote, that i didn't produce on spec, which is really nice. (rent, here i come!)

You'll have to copy and paste. It didn't work to embed a private link.

So, this is just my curiosity running wild... What would you charge the artist/label/manager/writer/whoever is in charge (one time fee, and no royalties), for this specific production (note that it's only a draft by now. it will have a full form and better mix and so on later.). Just want your gut feelings on this. :)

    Thanks

well the song has the modern chart potential, so i'd say $25.000 or between 5 and 20 grand somewhere. guy famous already? if so, has the cash, so go 50 grand. wannabe ? 5 grand. somewhere between? 15 grand. make a flexible deal, so if it gets sold for serious dough you get bigger share

Wow, that are some insane amounts. Really wish the guy was famous for that reason. :) It's actually a person who is just starting out, and wants some demos for pitching to labels. The deal i offered, before even starting to produce was 1500 euro plus 5% mechanical rights when/if the revenues goes over 2000 euro. So considering all, i guess it's somewhere in between your first and your second suggestion... :P

I guess i didn't even consciously count the revenue as a real asset tbh, since I'm so skeptical of this whole business, but it would feel pretty f'ed up if a song you produced happened to turn in millions, and you had no piece of the pie, so it felt more like an emotional backup...

    Here and there.
That explains a lot! Considering this fact it's not apt to charge too much for a single song.
If the artist in question had already a certain documented popularity you could consider higher prices.

Yeah, i agree. I wonder how you get a gig to produce for someone like Bieber... That'd be a nice gig, wouldn't it? :P Then I could take a vacation...

At an interview on The Recording Revolution, Joey Sturgis said that he pitched recording the demos for The Devil Wears Prada for 80 bucks. I'm not saying you or anyone for that matter should go down to the floor to get a gig, but both Sturgis and TDWP did alright. Most of all, Sturgis work was top of the line, he worked his ass off, and it turned out alright. Of course, he saw potential in the band and he built a relationship over a crappy gig. Popularity determines the fare of the gig, just like when one forms a band.

it's really good! (excepting the lead vocalist)

fyi, David Guetta is buying loops or original stuff for max Eur5k, I know a guy who sells him small pieces of music like that.
Then his producer (Fred) does the rest of course.

I think music these days is almost worthless, but fame is worth a lot.... so if your guy is starting out...

Unfortunately I will have to agree on this one. Cyrus, Bieber... And the list goes on and on.

    EDIT: Very nice tune BTW.
