I'm doing a Remix for "Last night a DJ saved my life" and my composition is going well, except for the vocals. The track was originally 107bpm and I want to up it to 120. So naturally i started using time stretch in Ableton to up the tempo. Everything has been pretty straight forward EXCEPT the vocals. I'm bashing my head trying to make it sound right and it's proving to take HOURS just to do SMALL amounts.

Does anyone have tricks or easier methods than having to manually stretch every little increment of the wave file? I really just want this track done now.....I was having FUN until I had to get these vocals sorted.......AHHHHH!!!!!:snuffy:

I got the package in stems and ableton files. I'm currently trying to do a simple warp from the Ableton file that comes provided....we'll see if that works...otherwise I got to manually stretch the vocal to hit the 120bpm. I could easily just up pitch it...but you see I want to keep the pitch as is and not altered.

There is a very easy way to manage this problem: Before u use the vocals in Ableton: Open the Vocal-File in "Steinberg WaveLab" and search for TimeStrech-Function in the Menu. Then, on the left side, you set the original tempo to 107 and on the right the new tempo to 120 bpm. Make sure u use the best quality. The timestreching-process is slower than in ableton, so it might be 5-10 Minutes til the tempo is set to 120. But you will be happy with the result! I promise! ;)

I know the new Logic has a really cool time stretch where you just drag the audio file to the appropriate bar and it does it all for you. With Ableton I gotta stretch every little wave to the right marker so it stays in time with my BPM.......ahh......just takes so much time.

I don't understand the percentage. Where in Ableton do I input that?

Does Soundforge do this as well? That's what I'm currently using for editing

AH HA! OK...i see a percentage in soundforge. OH my god...you saved me so many hours of frustration and discontent!

    Now....I have to test it.....

Hello, i remixed the famous track many many years ago. The frustration starts with a simple error. The original track is around 110 bpm. The fastest way to acidize a whole audio file (this means adding metadata to the wav file that includes tempo and pitch information and acidized audio files are supported in most daws) , like a vocal track for instance, is to edit its "Acid properties" in Sound Forge. There is a dedicated window in SoundForge called "Edit Acid Properties" where you simply write the tempo of the track in a column (and pitch if you like). You also have to choose that this is a "beatmapped" audio file in the same window/different column, the other two options there are "one shot" and "loop". Then you just re-save your audio file and you are done. The file now has this metadata embedded and any daw that supports acidized files will recognize the tempo. Originally this was implemented to complement Acid Pro users but the impact of the acidized files on the industry was enormous back in the late 90s so soon most daws supported the protocol.
    Hope this helps.

Congratulations on figuring out your problem. For stand-alone (SA) effects purposes, you could mess around with this (but, not for your vocal track). Spit in the face and bury a cigarette butt into your last problem. It's dated, but still looks fun for a specific purpose, and for random results of *.wav files.

Melodyne 4 also has a fine time stretch algorithm only for vocals. Try that as well if you use Melodyne

Line up the acapella with the original full song, stretch both so the original song lines up with the grid (which means that the acapella will also be in time and on time)

Last night some producers saved my life! Cheers guys! I'm almost finished! The track has become FUN again! The soundforge trick with the calculation of percentage worked great. I still had to do touch ups in Ableton for timing, but it was FAR easier than manually trying to stretch every little wav file from 110 to 120......man....I almost gave up!
