Thank you a lot for the mix indications and for the mastering preset.

Although I'v just run a quick test, i like what your preset gives. Especially the MS, inflate and saturate options. Unfortunately the limiter sometimes peaks over 0dB.
Also is there any way to view the GR from the compresor and limiter?

About the subGENRE's mix, i dunnow why, but I still prefer the 3rd pass mix. Just WAW :O

On the right hand side of the plugin you will see a limiter button. That will take care of the overs. If you hit edit you can go inside and look at individual settings and you can completely screw everything up there..

Mixing is taste. I haven't heard where he ended up with the 3 tracks he was doing..

Started a new job and haven't had a lot of time to work on the mixes. But here's one more.

Hey guys! Just compared the first mix to the 33rd and I gotta say that I like the initial mix a LOT better. Sounds lot more balanced and authentic. On the last one, the punchy kick is missing, the snare drowns in sizzly, unfitting reverb...
Has nothing to to with spatial depth in my opinion.
Some minor (really only minor!!) tweaks on the first mix would have done it for me

Spencer i tip my hat to you for the work you did with Dudley. :shalom:

But i would have to agree with @jomali96
The track lost its grittiness, the energy after the 5th or 6th version. This is the problem when you try to fix everything in a mix, it loses its heart.
Its not supposed to sound surgically clean.
Too much reverb on the snare and its not EQed correctly.

The song ,particularly the drums and cymbals are suffering in digital harsh mids and highs.
Snare sounds worse now, it lost its body character.

I need to rip this one open take every effect off and just start over now that I have somewhat of an idea of what I'm doing. I know I could mix it a lot better with what I have learned since I did this. And make better creative decisions instead of just fumbling around trying to find my way. Plus my ears are more sensitive as to what to listen for. When I did this it was all still new to me and as far as I knew a compressor was just a compressor instead of a tool for adding character

I agree with you bro i followed this thread wen it started i really enjoyed it too \m/ Both Spencer26 an subGENRE know what they are doing but i feel like you do with this type Grunge kinda Rock less is more >>> the snare has more impact with less Verb on it gives it that in you face for this song ;) Wen i mix a band that has a slow chuggin kinda groove like this i let the drums be a little dominate most times the snare gets more verb but in this case no >>> sounds better without \m/

  16. spencer26 is to be celebrated as a wonderful mentor and mensch. If we could only clone him we could all learn much in the way of mixing and being good, thoughtful humans. We could all benefit from having around a spencer28, spencer420+, etc.

    Hi jomali96,
    are you really sure?
The first mix for me sounds like a demo style. The 33rd as a pro. Perhaps what can fool listening is how different souds stem's guitar. Something in the 33rd got worse about pan, widely and deph of the guitars. Compare the start of song: in the 1rd ther's something in center while in the 33rd not. But the drum of the 33rd is really pro, toms beautiful. The voice steam is corrected in 33rd, although' so dry, but it is a matter of taste.
Go in mastering with the same mastering chain preset for the 1 and 33rd and you 'll hear everithing more clearly.
Anyway, Thanx for this amazing sharing Knowledge.
