    Greetings to you all!
I wonder, how this vocals can be achieved (live) with a vocoder, or something else...
I realize usual vocoder techniques tend to be rather robotic, too palid compared to real 3-part harmonies.

How can you make that sound?

p.s. The quality of the recording, you know...

A vocoder won't help you achieve this sound.
Find three soft'n'sexy men who can sing! :shalom:

    Vocoder? Why a Vocoder?
It's just a main voice with a choir, no special effects at all.
All you need is good singers. The best ones are from CUBA!

Actually there are dozens of mic effectors for live performance. You can check TC Helicon voicelive or Boss VE 2. I'm not sure you can acheive that mexican sound of "Los Tres Diamantes", but, with these devices, your voice will surely sound better on stage

I would say that's just a lot of distortion, but I doubt it was meant that way. As you say yourself the quality is bad. Shouldn't be hard to find some singers and distort their voices with the shitload of gear out there to do it.

Thank you all for your feedback. Well, it's not difficult indeed with singers. I am asking this with curiosity of what technology can do to achieve this, and to consider such a sound a personal practice: to being able to sing just with my voice, more than 3 voices simultaneously! Can you imagine?

Simply put - you can't really do this with "technology". You need three guys who can sing, as well as sing in falsetto and pull off a good vibrato. It's the small differences in pitch, timbre and phrasing that makes it chorus-y and nice. If you do it with technology (vocoding, Antares Harmony Engine, TC Helicon harmonizing pedals, VariAudio, Melodyne, etc) you will usually get an exact copy of the original vocal. There will be no lovely imperfections.

The only technology here, if I may, would be to put them (group-tracked) through a distortion effect.

If you find a guy who can sing, let him sing all the parts (lead and harmonies). Double-track him (I mean triple-track him).

You don't... the voices are not fixed intervals... perhaps with smart harmonizers, but some voices move in the recording. if not moving your voices is not a problem, well, there you have the answer, but it will not sound as good as you expect

Thank you my good friend. I personally admire so much Mexican music and film history: pioneers in every second...

Melodyne it's a perfect way to do it in studio...
But to do it live... that's the matter.

You mean LIVE? Oh, yes that's a completely different situation!
I guess there's no electronic tool (yet) available that could create good choirs or voices...
There's no way around real singers, i suppose.
