Mix like the pros: Choosing Studio Speakers & Audio Interface. What's next?

Well you see, the power in trap songs (aswell the "earth shaking" bass in techno tracks) is not in the very subs, it is up an octave (psychoacoustics). Listen to a professionally produced trap song and you'll find that you can hear the "sub" in laptop or smartphone speakers. Ironically, "deep bass" is not subsonics, is just the feeling of subsonics :)

Now, going back to monitoring discussion: in a club setting, the woofers don't "like" frequencies under 44-50 Hz. So you must contain very, very tight the subsonics. You can't do this at home unless you have a subwoofer and your room is well treated. The simple fact that you can feel (can't really talk about "hearing" 35 Hz / C1) the subs in 8-inchers is not a guarantee that you'll get that sound when played loud in the club. And because 8-inchers would not translate well enough, this is why you may very well use 5-inchers and rely on FFT to tighten the subs. Or even use the SubPac in addition.

There is pretty much only one thing that can cure it,that is the viapal-m package, with 1000mg L-arginine and 1500mg of fish oil(daily).
The principle is that this combination of pills drastically increases the levels of hormones needed for healing,it basically creates so much nitric oxide that at night while you sleep your body, including your nerves slowly heal,it takes a few months but it heals.
Damage can occur because of bad genetics, drug abuse, physical exhaustion(work or sports) or any other exhaustion that damages your body.

Ok I think for my current situation what I am going to do is make the track on my jbl 305s (to save my ears) do a little mixing with my seinheiser 25iis for levels and then send it out to be mixed by a professional. This way I can focus on the music and song writing which I like.. I don't like mixing or mastering actually. So this brings me to my next question where the hell can I send my mix that is decent but will not cost me an arm and a leg. And the other question is if the mix engineers perform all the side chaining and eq/reverb/delay stuff right?

its really hard for me.. i cant do it all it drives me crazy lol i'm just going to focus on creating a really clean daw and create steams or leave them in for the mix engineer. I mean I can make average work but I can't compete with some of the tracks I hear on beatport the clarity and punch and depth I just cant get there I dont know what to do.

That would mean that I could add a very steep low cut at about 60 Hz and the song would be the same, that's nonsense. You can hear deep bass on laptop speakers because of the overtones yes, but as the name implies, these are just the overtones. The fundamental tone (sorry, don't know the right term in English) is still somewhere below 50 Hz. And now go tell some car hifi enthusiast you don't need ultra low frequencies in music...

Edit: However, we can agree on the fact that these low frequencies can't be heard via the ear, but feeling something is still not exactly the same as hearing something with your body.

    Try these guys: http://nlmastering.com/index.php/about-us

Well, no. A song has a kick & a bass. "oomphy" kick and huge bass cannot co-exist in 30-44 Hz area. When the bass is above the kick (overtones), the kick ensures the subsonics. You hear the overtones from the bass and the "oomph" of the kick and your brain is thinking that he's hearing & feeling both. But you see, in reality the brain is tricked.
That's one of the reasons we layer the kick with a "tock" sound, so when we listen in lo-fi speakers, we can identify the kick (by that "tock") and the bass (by the overtones) and the song makes sense.
However, test your tracks in the club and see how they play.

Okay so I guess I misunderstood you a little, I thought we were talking about frequencies in general and not specifically bass without kicks, or vice versa. However, in Trap music as far as I know the 808 / distorted sine bass is in charge of the lower freqs more than the kick. In most of those tracks the kick is more like the "tock" sound you mentioned, as this genre is so 808 focussed and 808s are "longer" than kicks. But I guess we're better not gonna argue about how to do stuff when there should be no rules, as long as it sounds good :)

That's correct. And the reason that sine is distorted is to give you the overtones we were talking about (or layering a pure sine with distorted sine/square for upper harmonics). The fundamental is just a sine - that's all you have at 35 Hz - one, single sine wave. And there's really not much you can do with a sine in terms of perceived power (loudness). This is the reason I was telling you that the perceived power does not rely in the the low frequencies. You need them, but the power is not there :)

... and we can absolutely agree on that :)

  13. if you can't hear it you can't make choices that turn into a good/great mix. Spend your money on a professional who will tune your room and turn it into a decent tool that you can work in. Monitoring on less than stellar monitors in a good room is better than monitoring on great boxes in a shitty room. Give me a great guitar with shitty strings instead of a shitty guitar with great strings every day. First things first. (If you keep the volume really low with near field monitors you can kind of get away with almost anything) After your mix you can reference it on these....

Even though this is about headphone mixing the lesson is the same. Know your environment. All monitors are tools and the more you know how they change/color the sounds that go thru them the better you'll be at making music that sounds the you way you want it to sound.

Yeah and look into these. I picked up the Subpac S2 and it's a game changer when it comes to getting a handle on what the low end is doing in a mix. www.subpac.com

Lastly reference tracks. Knowing what you want you track to sound like and what those songs sound like going thru you systems is a must. Something like Sample Magic's AB is awesome. But also something as simple as just loading the .wav files into the project itself but going out it's own bus without effects or mastering chain will do.

Buying better gear is great but knowing what you have is priceless.
