You're forgeting that if you work in order to find and express your individuality it might get a bit hard to sound like everyone else.

 

I think you're being very unfair to Faoki here...No matter how annoying he may seems sometimes - like any of us on a bad day - this is someone who posts his shit, particpates in many threads, comments when people asks for feedbacks on their songs, he has participated to a community spire soundbank...The guy always asks to do "colabs" with me which I will do when I have time...I see no troll here.

Well, lets put it like this. In any genre, there are certain artist that you can tell its them just by hearing a short piece of their melody or leads. Its because they have a style and sound that they learned first then developed.

Then theres the rest of the canned casseroles who sound the same......

 

Voicing rules, register and limits should also be noted for you knowledge, but can be broken. Arpeggios, pentatonic scales, major, minor, harmonic, melodic,and all 'modes' of those should be studied. Constructing a melody should be all your creativity at this point. I wouldn't get into neighboring tones, types of motion and counter-point, directional movement, etc... for this type of music, just study melodies that you like, and try and creatively listen, swish, spit, write,
repeat.

The amount of arrogance and self entitlement in this thread is outstanding.
In a website like this I'd expect mature people to behave as such, but all I'm seeing is just a bunch of people thinking they are either Rick Rubin or Mozart. It's also incredibly stupid how people can be able to argue over some chords when a lot of hits have the same goddamn chord progression, but no, "real producers" think their shit. NO, real producers just overlook posts like this and if they don't they'd just comment with something helpful instead of calling out forum members and joking around.

Almost any person that knows "how to play a bit" on an instrument but without any theory will usually display much more musical awareness, sensitivity and ear than any of these ego-driven pianorollers.

 

Google ["your favourite song"] + [chords] and create a song with these chords.then, Experiment with scales that will fit.
The scale you'll be using will be based on the chords
( and the opposite is true as well, depends on which one you come up with first )
