Creating Melodies 101... Have they all been used at some point in history?

All chords have been used and are royalty free... Why are melodies any different? I'm thinking 99.9% have been used in some other composition at one point or another so from my stand point is it better to try and create a unique melody on my own or listen to some popular ones and do a variation off those? (My goal is to be a famous DJ and music producer.)

Another question: what is your workflow for crafting melodies and creative process behind it...? I am a novice and what I like to do is build chords around the melody. I have a 43 page e-book (that I wrote myself) where I keep my notes for referring back while composing my music.

What cadences do you like to use and things to spice up and make the melodies exciting? What tricks do you like to use for this?

Any advice and info regarding melodies would greatly be appreciated!! -

Read the Dance Music Manual, there is some great foundation level information about melodies  And then afterwards you can make a new thread "Creating Melodies 201" which will be more interesting:cheers:

I'm already tired of all these "I want to be a star, by copying what others do, because I have no creativity" bullshit.....

For this example, lets say melodies transposed to different scales don't count, and melodies are 4 bars long, consisting of 1/4 notes, using western scales without accidentals and only 1 octave.

    (7 notes + 1 rest) ^ 16 steps = 281,474,976,710,656 possibilities.

Thats 3 hundred thousand billions, and with only the narrow scope I picked.

1/8 notes would be 79,228,162,514,264,337,593,543,950,336 aka 80 octillion possibilities

It sounds like they've been using the same 3 or 4 possibilities for decades so... plenty left to use.

First wow, if you listened to just 10 seconds of each song you must be 25,123,085,525,832,171,991,864 years old, what was there before the big bang? :bleh:

I don't blame the producers, I blame the ignorant listeners. White teenage girls ruin artists/genres.

Are they the ones getting sample packs and loops?

Well, maybe they should... it's virtually the same thing.

If there was no demand for it by the teenage girls, producers wouldn't supply, and sample pack makers wouldn't have demand from producers.
Cut the head off the snake, kill teenage girls.. (just kidding NSA).
