I have been recording and mixing for some time now and I found that in Ableton Live I get the best overal gel when I have all my recorded stuff Warped in complex pro. The end product sounds pretty good but when you play the tracks individually they are choppy and stuff. I have to live with it however because when I unwarp everything the whole mix gets loose and shitty.

I guess my question is do producers and artists record their guitars and stuff super perfectly then place them in the mix precisely so that no warping is needed? Or do producers warp things but they are just better at doing it than me?

Musicians (like myself) usually play to click (metronome), if that's what you are asking.
No warping/flexing needed then, if the musician is good enough that is.

not that i really ever record things live or in live i do use live to make mashups and i warp just about everything that i use, with the complex pro algorithm i never really hear any difference.

Warp to grid with repitch (this will not affect audio quality) then manually adjust the pitch of every recorded note should you need such adjustment as a warp side effect. Obviously, set the project's BPM closer as possible to the original BPM of the live session. Alternatively, you can split your recording into transients and manually adjust each cut.

Me and most producers I know use a combination of techniques to get it right. First all, don't forget the golden rule: "Shit in - shit out" - Always try to record it as good as possible. If you notice your guy is not really on point, record several takes in order to have enough material to work with. Then chop up the best parts of each take and combine them until you have a halfway proper take. Chop it into even smaller pieces when necessary. Turn off the grid and freely move the pieces around until it feels right. This part may take some time, but is critical if you want to make a difference. And only if that doesn't bring you to a proper result, start messing around with warp. It will always have a negative effect on sound quality, so treat it as a last resort.
