Regarding your question in your first post.
A lot of German bands did make it in the world.Scorpions,Nena,Boney M(more like a Frank Farian project)Modern Talking,Rammstein,Herbert Gronemeyer and also Austrians have had a few world hits Falco,Opus.
If we only talk about popular music, leaving out the legendary classical composers.

Now THAT is the absolute damn freakin' truth. Please don't compare this music to Disco, it's as far from actual 70's Disco as Frank Sinatra is from EDM. Why do people born in the 80's seem to feel that this type of Electro Synth Pop (which they heard prepubescently) is classed as Disco??

Its Italo Disco my friend, used to be huge in Europe and basically later evolved into early 90s dance music.
This genre also made a big impact on many producers in the 90s.

Yeah, but I mean like hundreds or thousands of artists as Germany is a big country and they also have Thomann, so everything is in place  Maybe it's a management/industry problem?

For example, in the UK, bands can come from nowhere and suddenly get popular very quickly. I can think of Royal Blood who were one moment playing in bars, and the next they were making waves at Glastonbury and other big festivals. I also posted in another thread about a band who were playing in front of a few dozen people a short while ago, and are now ascending rapidly.

This was just 3 months after their very first gig!

Looking worldwide you are correct, though Germany was non stop producing electronic and dance acts that were very successful in Europe, hell Germany drove the dance scene in Europe in the 90s.
Although i have to say i never really liked the 90s dance scene,a few songs here and then yea,but mostly i preferred instrumental bands at that time.

UK gave birth to some of the best rock/hard rock/metal bands in the late 60s,70s and 80s..
You used to be in the centre of the world, production wise, sound wise and its sad how your country has fallen behind, regressed, with so many shitty bands as if UK lost so much of its personality.

You worked at DSDS?Hehe, well not many can say that you know, pretty cool, although im not a fan of these shows.
I remember when Rammstein came out in the 90s,they were really a breath of fresh air, energetic, great songs/production.
Their live shows are amazing,i really like them.

Quality aside :winker: I was referring mainly to the opportunity's that exist, where you can fall out of school and be playing festivals a few weeks later. They are also fast to push artists towards the US, that has always been a part of the business plan. The marketing guys know how to do their jobs :bleh:

Certainly, the era of huge bands is pretty much over.
I believe we live in the golden age for music production.Since never have there been so many opportunities to produce your own music without being a wealthy individual.
Digital age has revolutionized everything,i love it.

AHHHHHHHHHHH, will it never ends? I hated Modern Talking when they first came out, I hated them even more with every new track they made (sometimes wondering if there are really more than 1 song just with new lyrics)...I finally sworn to kill Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen when they decided to reanimate this shit in the late 90ies! But as I'm a peaceful guy I also tolerated it that Dieter Bohlen is the main jury of germanys version of "American Idol" (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) since about 13 years and you can read about him in german newspapers nearly every time...But now its enough!! Dont bring this shit to Audiosex ...dont even name it PLZ!!! Although I'm a german I really hate my fellow countrymen for making the groups success possible by buying their shit music. Incredible dumb lyrics and compositions. This is pure crap made in germany! We have so much better to provide to the music world but everytime you hear somebody talking about music from germany Modern Talking is mentioned...and thats a reason why I soon will built a time maschine and travel back in time to kill them before they are able to kill germanys reputation in musics history!

Here are some tracks from the same period of other german musicians

cmon it's awesome music (just jokin)... Music wise they are totally crap in every aspect... Only if you are drunk as fuck u can listen and party to such music... Like lukehh said they are just a really bad example for german music... But at least Dieter Bohlen knows how to run this... He is a genius when it comes to promotion and sellin shit as gold but that's all... Most germans sing in german that's why no one recognize them overseas or outside of Germany... It's like listen to a band from Russia... No one understand a what is going on in the track... But yea there are some talented guys in Germany that should get more attention...

That's a very, VERY narrow point of view. No doubt the classical greats were brilliant, especially melodically and harmonically. However, there are many different types of music, each focusing on different elements of the interplay of sound. Jazz music, flamenco, blues, rock n roll, electronica... the list goes on and on. Each style evokes something unique; and when done well, in a way that captures the mind and inspires... that is genius. Comparing Pat Metheney to Mozart is like comparing purple to yellow. Each evokes a different soundscape and range of emotions, each is intelligent and exciting in their own way. That is the beauty of music - genius comes in many different flavours.

    Now now! :)
Trying to be as dogmatic as it seems kewl here: everything you posted could easily be classified by someone - someone like me e.g. - as rip-offs or copies of whatever Joy Division or Depeche Mode didn't have the time to record. And continuing in my dogmatic overdrive, I postulate: for every person who thinks MT were shit there is a person who thinks Bob Dylan is shit.

phew - m' fairly sure I furthered this discussion quite significantly :D

I bought the 7" of You´re my heart, you´re my soul" when it was released back in 85. I still think it is a great song.
All the other tracks they did are, IMO, copies of the first hit.
I feel like they had a kind of hit-factory recipe and all the songs sound the same.
From a buisness point of view they were clever, but from an artistic point, meh...

Diether Bohlen wrote songs for other artists, they also sound exactly the same.
He had his signature sound, he makes me think about Stock, Aitken and Waterman.
All the big stars had Stock,Aitken & Waterman remixes in 2nd half of the 80s, and you could hear it clearly.

Some other artists mentioned in this topic; Scotch, New Musik and Alphaville are much better in IMO. They show
greater variety and more artistic integrity. (Scotch have silly lyrics, but its kinda charming :))
For anyone interested in Fancy, check out Get your kicks, by far the best album.
