Here i am writing a silly unimportant thread instead of doing work in my DAW.
Anyway, some of you know the duo, some younger kids dont.
I was born in the first half of the 80s so im very familiar with them.
They used to be HUGE in Europe.

Anyway,i think they are a genius duo (in their own way).Maybe because im a sucker for 80s italo disco which i think was superb at that time.
I do music that is totally different from this, yet i dont limit myself to genre when listening to a huge variety of music.
Anyway,a lot of people find them ridiculous or really hate them with passion, but when you really dive into their music you realize a few things.
At that time they seriously brought the disco production to the next level, simple songs yet very well produced, nothing revolutionary, though for disco they did a lot.
And you do have to know what the fuck you are doing to write like 10 consecutive hit songs.
They went trough different phases as musicians, which werent that successful until these two joined forces.
Definitely copied a lot from The Bee Gees which i also like.
Anyway, what do you think of them, have you even heard of them? :)
Maybe im a sucker for italo disco because it reminds me of so many New Year`s eve parties which played this genre a lot back then.
Also, this music translates very well on a powerful PA as well.

They were no Alphaville, but I've often wondered why more German music doesn't make it big. And yeah, Modern Talking does look like two guys who you would want to hit with a wet fish :bleh:

Its a sub division of disco, italo disco, though they are more pop/disco.
Listen to the first two videos here,Kano and P.Lion Happy Children, fucking superb and translates amazing on a powerful PA.
Kano intro sounds like a side product of Tangerine Dream.
There are so many great, unique italo disco bands though, powerful analog synths and experimental production.
Pure analog era, lots of heart in it.

It´s so freakin plastic fantastic - so hilarious the way they try to look lovely.

The music´s defenitely not my kind. I remember in start 80´s I had to hide my Duran Duran album (Rio) for my friends, or they would laugh of me going pop. It had to be new wave....

At the same time was Neue Deutsche Welle - the germans made world hits:

Falco rapped in german Der Kommisar
Trio just said Da Da Da
Hubert Kah was in Sternenhimmel with RoseMarie
Nena flew away with 99 Luftballons
You could Tanz Der Mussolini with DAF (a german - american friendship), but there were also
Deutsch-Österreichisches Feingefühl or maybe that was a Freundschaft as well?

They made such a nice tune (the chorus vocals) that immediately became known worldwide:

Now,Falco was a true genius in my eyes.Modern talking are genius in their own funny way,but Falco was really a huge talent.
Also Nena,i think Fahrenkrog wrote that song? The guy is a great pop producer, even played in a metal band later in the 90s.

    Modern Talking
music-wise: the 9th of the 7 biblical plagues
marketing-wise: the most ingenius scheme since Frank Farian (Boney M)
fashion-wise: made Miami Vice look like an Amish convention
AudioSex-wise: gayer than "You spin me right round" - hint: do yourself a favor, don't google that :)

but MAN, that Bohlen was a helluva producer who knew his shit and knew it was te right time

    Ahaha,that made me laugh! :)
Yes true on many levels also the part about Miami Vice!(Though i love Miami Vice, great music, stories and cinematography).
Yea,Bohlen knows the business side of it,though this music was also very well received at that time,soft/warm yet punchy bass sound it definetly hit the right tones in the discoteque and home parties :)

absolutely! I can dislike something and yet admire it for the perfection in which it was done, and everything during Modern Talking's hayday was done flawlessly: music, marketing, media/videos etc.
When something is done that good then you remember the songs ... as I do. So as long as I know the melody and chorus of Geronimo's Cadillac or Cherry Cherry Lady, and as long as I can vividly picture the blonde mullet and the tanned, curly appearance - after decades - I must pay respect to them for creating something so iconic.

I think Dieter Bohlen (hope I nailed the name right) produced also several CC Catch albums & Blue System. So yeah, they may be few italo tracks out there better than Dieter's but most of them were one hit wonder (or artists/bands with a small number of tracks compared to Dieter). This guy produced a huge amount of good tracks. I hate him but I love him :))
