Not long after that I also heard Iron Maiden's Piece of Mind (1983)
    and Powerslave (1984)

and I think that started the metalhead I am today

Yes, I should only post one, but the title says "...that defined your individual musical taste.", so I HAVE to make it two.

    First album ever:
Guns 'N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction (1987, on cassette)

    And:
    St.Germain - Boulevard (1995)

(shitty audio quality on this video...)

I had to name the second one, because this one opened up my mind and ears to many kinds of different Genres and Styles. That's why it is even more important for my "individual musical taste" than my first album ever.

    cheers :drunks:

Not sure if this album was the very first I bought, but after all those years - during which my tastes have diversified - he still remains in my collection like an absolute winner.

This was probably my first contact with the PMG, and they have been my biggest influence ever since, especially in ways of thinking about song structure and harmony... Lyle Mays is such a master at creating beautiful voicings. There really is no equivalent in my world.

The Runaway self titled 1976, saw them open for cheap trick and that was it. Ironically many years later a woman i was dating who i knew had been in a relatively popular 80's band turned she was the original bass player in the runaways. :) but truth be told the album that kinda shaped my musical path was Ultravox-Vienna

Before I ever bought any of my own records in the late 70's I was listening to my mother's albums. I always gravitated to David Bowie's "Station to Station". The first album that I purchased was Pink Floyd's "The Wall" which was a huge influence. But I have to say that one of my next purchases was even more influential in a more subconscious was as the blending of guitars and synths have always been to my liking. Jeff Beck's "There and Back". I didn't realize it at the time but the keyboards/synths with by none other than Giorgio Moroder! That's has definitely shaped my sound for life! Rock, funk and dance!

Well every kid has to rebel a bit, but since my dad already listened to Iggy Pop and Black Sabbath something like Slayer wouldn't have fazed him in the least ... so I saved my allowance and bought this:

Wendy/Walter Carlos's excellent score for Clockwork Orange (Though I had heard Switched On Bach briefly before buying the OST for Clockwork)

Suggest if you meant that as humor, try putting a smilie at the end so it don't look like you're just being a douche bag!

  20. The first album I bought was The Concert For Bangladesh that at that time ex Beatles member George Harrison had put together, that being what I believe is the first charity concert, at least in this scope, ever. My dear Grandmother gifted me 20 silver dollars, and since this was actually the first actual money that was mine and that I had held in my hand, burned through it and most of it landed in the cash register at the first Sam Ash music store in Green Acres Mall where I bought the album. The song that still stands out and continues to this day to inspire me and makes me smile is Leon Russel's so very cool rendition of the Stones Jumping Jack Flash combining it with his tune Young Blood. It sounded as if everyone was having a great time and inspired me to make some music and have some fun too! Leon goofed and came in one bar too early to a chorus but the band caught on right away. Here is that song from the live album...
