Studio One goes subscription only? Are you 100%?

There goes my interest for S1 if that's true... down the drain.

I hope some of the "groundbreaking" stuff is the GUI overhaul and antialiased waveforms in the audio clips.

i know... by the way all this subscription model is a nigthmare in my book...

but some folks enjoy this approach ... let's see how high they raise the "bar" ... i hope it don't clip the master...:shalom:

    Here
If you wouldn't have written this Ned, I would have....you were right on point.
A couple other things I find interesting in this same old boring debate between Cubase and S1 mostly:
    • So much time spent comparing a 27 year old DAW (Cubase 1.0 1989) against one that's only been around for couple years and just now turned to V3.0! Seems like Presonus must be doing something right when the biggest complaint by far is the screen color.
    • I don't really understand why so many people are looking to move away from Cubase if it's the superior DAW. Not blaming or flaming, just know if I find a tool that fits me so well for what I do and how I work, I'd stop looking, and in fact I have!
    • It's probably not a surprise that many who work primarily with MIDI claim Cubase is more proficient or whatever. Hell for the first several years MIDI is all it could do, it couldn't process audio. Even after acquiring audio capabilities it seems Steinberg kept a concentrated focus on MIDI for awhile. So that has a lot of reflection on it's MIDI capabilities IMO.
    • It wasn't until just over a year ago (Dec 2014 with Cubase 8.0) they made mods to the engine to help address performance issues which was taxing resources, just like so many of the complaints now being heard against S1.
    • Seems like many people who favor Cubase has had lots of experience with it (if not years), and know all the little tricks and nuances. Take two total noob DAW users who know absolutely nothing, I could all but guarantee both would be creating music in a shorter time span with S1 than with Cubase. It's learning curve and work flow are just more intuitive.
Just a couple observations before this thread gets closed from total boredom. Cheers everyone!

I'm still not using, nor I have tried using, S1, but it seems like it could use some audio engine optimisations, judging by some posts. I did hear actually that it uses a bit too much CPU in comparison, and I'm using Reaper which is the most efficient DAW regarding CPU consumption. I will probably be unpleasantly surprised when I find out that plugins consume 2x more than I'm accustomed to. Or will I?

    Depends on your production methods.
Types of plugins you use, number of them, virtual instruments, number of tracks,fx...
Yes,for me it was very noticeable.
Judging by the looks of S1 you could fool me it can compete with any daw,but using and abusing it showed it cant,YET.

Logics browser can preview loops (inclusive midi and vst) synced as well and additionally in key.
Apple loops can even contain a whole summing track inclusive Instrument multiouts.
For example you can save a complete Drum setup with individual outs, send tracks with Geist or Battery. In Studio One that only works with Impact, you cant even create a music loop from a Folder Track.

No bashing no nothing just facts.

Ps I use both, Logic and S1

Well i hope they do "raise the bar" but the cynic in me suspects that they will in fact just lower the floor instead.

Just tested it, it has the same bad CPU usage.

You still cant save Folder Tracks as preset.

    No bug fixes for Impact
Velocity to pitch still doesn't work in Impact.
If you select velocity to filter you still get clicks between the notes

But now we can have crosstalk with mixeffects.

3.2 is a right hook to Slo Tools.

It already has some really nice features,i just don't have time to dig in and learn it but this is good news.
The few times i have played around in it,it was pretty solid,i'll stick with Pro Tools for the time being though.

I'll be keeping an eye out on the new features because S1 can only get better.

Download the demo from their site and use the old keygen. Patch still works. Love S1 wish it had a drum sequencer like Sonar, but that's life, you can't have it all.

I'm a bit disappointed by 3.2 because most new features (except the automation bracket, FINALLY) aren't very appealing to me. I still keep my fingers crossed for v4
