Apart from that you can install Mac OS together with Logic and GarageBand on almost any PC hardware with Intel processor nowadays. I have been producing for almost ten years now with a hackintosh.

i could buy a really cheap uptodate self build power machine, for a few bucks and run windows on it, not possible with mac.
because apple makes it rather hard for you to build your own machine.
my point was PC is a lot cheaper as mac.
keep in your mind its 65GB to download traffic(imagine you have like 10000 people who bought it and then give them 5 downloads - do the math and you will see its pretty costy) costs a lot and everybody should do a backup of that stuff anyway.
and you have the box anyway, i assume updates are free of charge.
but well i would have done it probably the same way and put 10 bucks per download for such a huge Product.

Fair enough. I can't claim to understand the costs of internet traffic and hosting, which a computer wiz like you would probably know better than me. I will say this about Persing/Spectrasonics... they do have one licensing policy that I really appreciate. You can authorize as many times as you want. None of this 2 activation or 3 activation bullshit like I got with Soundtoys or Air Music Tech.

I guess I'm a little spoiled by Ableton. 40 or 50 gigs or whatever of packs... downloadable as many times as you want. Authorize (as far as I know) as many times as you want. License transfers are hassle free, support is great, and second hand licenses don't lose any perks. Great company for real. And Push 2 is a work of art.

@Cav Emp yes Ableton is really free there and they once said they are aware of piracy and they also have something from it. imagine bleton was never cracked, would you have started using it? i guess not, its the same for me.
i dont know how Ableton rents so much traffic, but maybe its because its a german company and they got a good cheap server or something?

could be for spectra thats different as its in america or they try to host it on their own servers, which are maybe more costy? we dont know.

the unlimited auth is really awsome as you can work with it on every computer on this planet, you just need to access your account on time. flawless concept.

but we are running in offtopic here :bleh::guru:

Serum (the synth) remains as "beta version" since it was launched...

Why the keyboard and curves (ENVelopes, LFO, VELOcity) remain displayed in FX version? effects can be triggered (or modulated) via MIDI commands (note, aftertouch, CC)?

Joke?: on MIDI/instrument track, load Serum as instrument, then SerumFX as insert, it will be fair about CPU/resources...

Maybe as alternative is to use plugin rack like PatchWork (Blue Cat Audio) or AGENT (NYRV System) and load your favorite VST plugins.

That's not how smart business works though. Omnisphere 2 is already a 500$ synth if you have to buy it from scratch. I'm not going to debate the price here since I don't know what it's capable of doing (haven't even touched the version on AZ to try out, I have way more than enough synths already) but it seems most people think it's absolutely worth that price. It seems they like their round prices since their upgrade options are also priced at 249$ and 199$ to make them look appealing. Still, I would argue that nobody would bat an eye if their product was price at 519$ or whatever. Since very few people are going to argue over 20$ when they're talking about a 500$ product. Especially, if that was the initial price and nobody would have even known they were willing to sell the thing for 20$ less in the first place but never made clear that intention.

But now, with the 10$ downloads, you have people like Cav (and I would probably fall into the same group) having somewhat negative words about being charged for their downloads. They feel the company is being greedy and don't appreciate them as much as they otherwise would have. It's like buying a sofa and then when you sign the agreement for delivery and what not they tell: "Ooh yeah, btw, we're going to need to charge you additional money for delivery." "And of course I forgot to mention, these are the installation charges we'll have to add to the total before being able to drop it off at your doorstep."

It's basically the expectation people have. They usually don't particularly care about a product being a little more expensive than X$ as long as the service is right. And stuff like delivery (for most items) like this software package are generally expected to be included within the given price. They might even be able to make more money this way depending on how many times the average customers downloads the entire package of their site. But even if that's not the case, they can make it easily so that they break-even from it just by upping the price a slight bit (percentage wise that is) but they have to deal with a whole lot less PR hassle.

P.S: Sorry for being off-topic but the discussion felt worthwhile and I really wanted to shine a different light on the issue. I won't be replying about this particular topic in this thread again since it wasn't made for it in the first place.

The best part about this is it will load all your existing Serum presets (just without the OSCs) so you can try the effects chains from existing presets on any sound.

The addition of a global wet/dry knob would've been nice, but Reaper's built in one works well enough..
