Sorry but this is just not true. the seventh is a vital addition to a triad. See, dominant.

    the color tones actually start AFTER the 7th. 9th, 11th, 13th 2nd 4th 6th are color tones

Rules are there to be broken. Sure there are stylistic rules, but the last instance is always your ears. There are huge amounts of jazz pieces that are just by the rules and I can't stand more than 10 seconds, sound like shit (to me, at least).

Studying harmony will help you to develop resources for your own creation. But there is Mahler and The Sex Pistols, who are you? Who do you want to be?

Well, being in doubt is not a problem... It is part of the everyday life.
...but You can`t be in doubt in regard to how it sounds... it can sound bad, mediocre or good.
Change the chord until the progression and the whole idea of a composition sounds good :dunno: ... it is called "making music"

    - some chords in a progression will "close the circle" / resolve too fast, but in some cases that is what You need... other chords will give You more room to elaborate / lengthen Your composition...

There is no universal "perfect" chord... all the songs would sound the same if it were so.
It is always a matter of choosing a good chord for what You want to "say" in a particular situation.
Good ears will aid You by choosing the right one... or someone relies on music theory, chord circles and things.

Of course, the more chords You know, that more choice You have.

pioneers of modern chord progressions, kiddo. it's all there.
learning to harmonize a melody isn't something to be taken lightly, if you're going to learn, learn from the best.
relying on software is a cop out and you won't learn anything.
always cracks me up how much people want to make music and profess their passion for it, yet they won't take the time to actually learn HOW it's actually made.

Of course it is subjective; It is You that make music!
You can`t be objective when it comes to how it sounds (to You)
