I tried Version 2 and was testing it out for a while. I bought Version 3, but I haven't been making music in the last few weeks due to work demands. Hopefully I can get up and running with S1 V3 and work on some of my ongoing projects.

I can't speak on behalf of anyone who was a die-hard S1 v2 fan, but as an Ableton devotee I'm really loving the new Studio One 3. The ability to build effect/instrument racks is a sound design necessity for me. And the 'splitter' is a nice implementation of it.

Right now I'm just dabbling, but I'm falling in love already. I've been using Ableton almost long as I've produced (which admittedly is not that long compared to some of you), and I've become pretty efficient. Yet for some tasks S1 is already faster!

I used S1 when I was transitioning from Adobe Audition to more well-rounded DAWs. I was happy for its simplicity then, but now that I've got a better understanding, I'm blown away by how intuitive it is.

I'll probably never give up Ableton, but this may be a nice compliment, and when I don't need Samplitude's power and flexibility for tracking and comping, this is certainly a good high-speed, low-hassle alternative. I'm becoming a believer.

EDIT: new topic created https://audiosex.pro/threads/midi-routing-in-studio-one-3-pro-v3-1-1.23088/ and... solved!

What about MIDI routing in Studio One 3 (v3.1.1) Pro?

I'd like to use Kirnu-Cream arpeggiator (VST2 x64) or other "MIDI" effects like Effectrix, but SO3 assume it as instrument (like many other DAWs) - VSTi, but I can't find any trick to route the MIDI signal (MIDI controller -> arpeggiator -> synth). No infos in manuals, no more infos in Groove3 tutorials (except SO3 "Note FX" explained, but it's a bundled arpeggiator)... but "nothing/nada/queue dalle" about MIDI routing between instrument tracks. Incredible!

MIDI routing is very easy to do on REAPER and Ableton Live. But the mystery on SO3...

Like the old color scheme better, instead of this greenish pink one. And the shadows are gone, which made things stand out...

Also, compared with other DAWs, the inspector doesn't look like much to me. It has no personality.

Maybe have custom screen sets inside the inspector?

I love Studio One V3, can't wait to try it with an audio interface and a mic.

I'm going to try it out and report back! I've never used S1 before, I've always used Ableton Live, with a bit of Cubase & Protools along the way.

I have been an S1 user since it first came out and absolutely love it's simplicity. I haven't noticed any major improvements in the latest version but I tend not to use the more in-depth features so I don't know if they are better or worse than before.

As for the GUI I think it was changed because so many people moaned about the old 'grey' look so they changed it to the seemingly popular black. I have changed mine to green and white which is easier on the eyes (for me anyway) so the option to change is there if you want it.

I love SO 3, loved the previous versions too. Really never cared much about its GUI even after 6 or 10 hours working and looking at it. It is the speed at what you get things done in it, that i love it so much. Browser is a miracle, first time i've exported or imported something in SO through its browser i have never ever did that the old way, you know click on File yada yada yada. Bouncing tracks, duplicating clips, comping, rewiring things, setting instruments just drag and drop and go, double click to create tracks, pack folders if you work with folders, routing, adding buses, grouping tracks, sidechaining, fast faaast editing, melodyne integration etc etc and then if you master in SO too, no words, wanna turn down the snare a bit in the mastering stage? no problem open the song turn it down, save, close, get back to project view and omg it lets you know there is something different, wanna update? sure click done. No DAW does those things that way that fast, dithering anyone? You set that once if you don't like default dither and forget about that. So yea, honestly, i don't care if they put pink elephants and unicorns in the SO 4 gui  as long as they don't brake its awesome workflow

I love S1's workflow. But honestly, that's the only thing I really like about it. The MIDI is severely lacking (no humanization options), it's bad at film scoring, no surround sound support, no score editor... It's way too expensive for what it offers, for $60 you get Reaper that can do so much more (I'm not a Reaper fanboy BTW, I don't use it anymore but you get my comparison)
