I think it depends on point of view.
It is quite a lot of work installing and tweaking win 10 to run stable and not phoning home (until the next update of course).
If you're satisfied with your win7, there is no real need for updating.
But if you like using touch enabled stuff, modern apps etc., give it a try. You can roll back if you don't like it. But I would prefer a clean install, not an update. Thats done best after a bakup of your stable win 7.

Never, *never* update Windows. Always clean install, although it's a big PITA to reinstall everything, it is worth it to have a freshly installed Windows.

Also, always use VirtualBox for experiments with plugins! Never *never* install something just to try it and then erase it later. That's what VirtualBox is here for. Installing loads of programs is the #1 reason for Windows becoming sluggish because everything you do in Windows ends up and fills up the registry. The bigger the registry, the slower the Windows. My Windows last and last for years and it works the same as freshly installed Windows. That's because I never install anything in it and when I do install I do it manually as I like to call it.

I install everything in VirtualBox then move dlls, any files, and registry settings [if needed] to my main system. It's also the best test for malware and viruses. If the installation or keygen contains malware or a virus you will notice it. That's one more reason why I don't need any antivirus programs on my main audio OS. Antivirus is equal to having a virus [not the synth! :)] in your computer, if not worse. Mr. McAffee would have me hanged for saying this.

I have a legit FL 12 running on a Legit Win 10 without any issues. With that said I recently just installed win 7 on a different drive so I can dual boot so I can use the PT 12 AudioUTOPIA gave us. It runs on Win 10 but it runs better on WIn 7. Plus on that Win 7 all I have installed is PT 12 and Plugins.

I still wait from 8 to 10 . But Win 7 is old legend for audio production. Win7 disable unnecessary services and go . Win 8 and 10 are only marketing in my opinion and there is no difference for us

Win 10 works perfectly with all my software. Never had any problems and it is faster than 7. It is a free upgrade and you can roll back within a month so it is a no brainer in my opinion. Always good to do a full back up first, but you do that anyway.

WINDOWS 10 is IT period! No more hassle, it just works in the audio domain. Thereby in the near future there will be a complete new audio domain update with very low NATIVE latency. NATIVE folks!! WIN10 is a winner. Hurry to install and make more and better music. 5 stars in my opinion.......

I'm sure that some day we will use Windows 10 for music production, but that day is long time into the future for me. First I have to find a way to cull it down to 3GB installed with everything annoying ripped out. That means lots of GBs of crap will have to disappear before I decide to use it for audio. Also, Windows 10 needs a few years of patches to iron out at least the most obvious bugs in it. I find Windows 10 a complete disaster and a totally useless OS as it is now. Especially for music production. You sacrifice CPU cycles to its inefficiency, and you sacrifice privacy and incompatibility with many programs and plugins just to use it. I find that unacceptable, sorry. If the situation was different I would be using it yesterday, but it's not. I also wished Windows 8 to be better than 7 but it's not. I so wished to use W8, really! because I know they've been doing some really interesting under the hood optimisations, but it seems like corporate heads at MS managed to somehow nullify those optimisations so it works worse than 7.

I don't know what gives you an idea that Windows 10 works faster than 7? Have you got any proof? Have you tried them side by side like I did? Well, not 10 but I tried XPx64, W7SP1, W8.1 and decided not to try W10 after seeing that W8.1 is the least efficient of the three.

I think, and I said it before, that many people just blindly praise Windows 10 because it is the newest MS OS. Nothing else. In your mind it has to be the faster, better etc. But it is only in your mind! I don't mean that it boots in 5 sec instead of 15, or how long it takes to start "Crysis", but how well it runs the DAW, plugins, and heavier projects in general. That's my only benchmark. Audio is my life, it has been for the last 30 years, not Microsoft. I've seen OSes I use for audio come and go. More than any of you here. Commodore, Atari, Amiga, BeOS amongst others. Windows is just a stage for me.

I can bet FL Studio works more efficiently with W7, but I use Reaper so I wouldn't know. My clients mostly use Cubase, Reaper, and Pro Tools, so I'm not very interested in how FL Studio performs under any system, actually, but someone could be interested in that so thanks for chiming in. So maybe FL Studio works better with W10. I've heard that Sonar likes W10 also.

    Cheers!

Why do you love it? Elaborate. Use sentences and paragraphs. Explain and provide examples and test results why and how it is better and faster. otherwise we can do this for 66 pages:

John: "I love XP. It works great!"
Paul: "I love W7. It works great!"
George: "I love W8. It works great!"
Ringo: "I love W10. It works great!"
    etc.

I mean ??? It took me couple of days to set up 3 different systems and benchmark them. How long did it take you to decide that W10 is the best and that you love it? :rofl:Now I see I made a huge error not testing Windows 10 only to show you all how bad it is, and I'm sure it is. It simply can't be better than W7 as it goes against all logic [no MS OS worked *truly* faster than the last one *ever*. all they do is trick you into thinking it is working faster]. I'm going to do it one of these days when I find time. Damn it. I'm going to post pictures and all results just to shut you W10 fanboys up finally. I can bet you lose at least 10% or even more of plugin/DAW performance in comparison to W7.

btw I benchmarked OS-X 3 years ago when I was deciding if I should go OS-X route, and one of my clients was in doubt, and in comparison to Windows XP it lost by 20-30%. After seeing that and seeing that every update breaks old programs and plugins I decided to simply forget about it and never look back. My only bias and devotion is to performance with audio and convenience. Not companies. Companies come and go. Music is forever.

Cheers! [with Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon - yum!] :mates:

Burned it twice. Tested twice. Booted twice. No problems. I used Win 7 disk image burner, which is built in.
