Hey guys I've recently gotten slate VMR working in pro tools 12 by using bluecataudio's patchwork and had a question about how many instances I should be putting the plugin on? Should I put this on all my bus tracks as well, i.e. vox bus, guitar bus, drum bus etc... ? Or do i just put the one mixbux instance on my master fader? Thanks for all the help guys. cheers!

^ Well that was helpful, lol.

I'm not sure what you mean, @MrRobRancor ... I don't have VMR but isn't it just a bunch of hardware emulations? So put it wherever you need an eq, comp, etc..

Maybe you mean VCC? In that case, I've heard you put it on everything. And mix through it, don't slap it on at the end. Because it will change things slightly

i'll be moderate with hardware emulating plugins
as they introduce (un)wanted distortion, noise, harmonics, nonlinearities ... and hide some mix problems.
make sure you bypass and compare before you commit the insert.
use as much as you like

I think you mean VCC as that is what you put on everything. What I would do (especially since you are using it with Bluecat), and before you add any other plugins or processing, is load up VMR on every track and insert VCC on each one. Unlink the input and output, set your DAW faders at unity. Now play each track and watch the VU meter. You should be bouncing around between -5 and 0 as you adjust the input. Console type and drive amount to taste. Once each track is done, use Pro Tools "commit" on each track to save CPU.

vocals 1 on every bus, drums 1 on the group, next every instrument individual which need it. then one on the master bus

think about it as a real console, experiment with compression and eq before and after an instance asif it was chained or on a insert
