Among the usual troubleshooting, music show-off, and camaraderie that is the heyday of this place, I wanted to share a personal highlight in my life as music lover. Tonight, in a few hours, I'll play one of the most significant gigs in my life. A band that I loved to listen to when I was growing up has officially appointed me as a member and the official introduction is tonight. This band is named Pax, and it is truly legendary in my country with some local and international following. They published the first hard rock album in Latin America in 1970, around the same time Black Sabbath published their first album. Their original line up included a bass player named Slick Aguilar, soon to be famous by his work in Jefferson Starship. Later on, Pax popularized a cover version of Golden Earring's Radar Love in a time when access to foreign music in Peru was banned by the military government at the time. Nowadays this is the song they are mostly famous for in Peru. If you want to learn more about their self-titled album of 1970, click here. It's a very thoughtful review.

Anyway, I learned to appreciate music listening to hard rock and heavy metal in the middle of the 80s, and when the local music scene was flooded with "hisparock" (rock/pop song originals in Spanish), it was refreshing to listen to Pax, one of the few hard-driven bands of the era. I met the guys back in '07, and we used to hang out. I've been filling in the bass players' shoes on and off and even helping as a roadie occasionally. Tonight I will be featured as an official member. This had me thinking about the power of music.

I am currently 42 years old, and I can still feel the joy of my first gig. Obviously, things get jaded sometimes, and it feels like nothing makes sense until a gig like tonight's happens. I feel blessed with the sweat of playing music. I say "sweat" and not "gift" because I have never been a talented musician. Every note I play and the calluses in my fingertips have cost me a lot of sweat (and frustration too). I'll leave you with a video clip of Pax's reunion of 2013, the first in over 30 years with me on the bass.

And if you want to listen to their very first album, here it is also on youtube:

Peace to you all and wish me luck tonight.

I'm American, and I've heard of Pax. I can hear what you're excited about. The guitar player sounds like he's about to explode.
