yes handling criticism is important and multiple points of view is important. Even talented musicians get them. Learning to be able to filter out what is useful to you and what is just plain ignorance is important...

Just keep practicing and spending time learning and understanding how all this works. Then when you know you've got a competent sound going, any type of feedback you get you can judge for your own as stupid or useful...

But the important thing is not to crack and look like a sensitive fool just cuz someone gave some small or large criticism about your music...

@One Reason I usually love how upfront and honest you are. And I like the fact you don't retract your statements because that is genuinely how you feel. I love and respect this quality in you as I'm similar myself. With that said bro, don't forget we all started somewhere. Sure honest feedback will push him to do better, but you don't wanna take the life or passion out of him. He'll give up before he even got a chance to get started. He has a desire to want to be good, and had the balls to put up his song. I agree that when you do that, you should be prepared for good and negative reviews, and it is vital for growth. But use his passion and joy for music to motivate him to push himself. Let him know it needs a lot of work but he is on the right track if he keeps working hard at it. Lots of true talents have been wasted in this world because their dreams were killed early. Peace my man.

Its not my intention to kill someones dreams... it is my intention to let someone know... no matter the stage in their musical progression... if what they put out for criticism is bad or not.

In this case... I dunno... its ..for me... not good.. in any way.

There will always be folks out there to sugarcoat and handhold..but that's not me... for better or for worse.

Maybe being a desolate boarding school attendee\son of a special forces maniac father has some effect on me.. maybe... but damn.. I will always speak my mind, bad or good.

... and blv me... if its good.. IMO... i will say so.

Just listened again... can anyone with any reasonable production experience say anything even remotely positive about this track?

To quote myself.. its just not very good... Imo.

yeah .. I like some of the sounds... the arrangement of them is lacking .. as I pointed out.. now as to whether I know anything
about music.. I guess you could shoot me down on that...

and, if I was a mean, cold hearted bastard I could cut up to ribbons the stuff I have seen from you m8.. but damn...
that's just not me... and damn I speak my mind too... ( in b4 you mention I never posted any of my stuff either..
maybe I'm my own worst critic already.. or.. I do it for my own fun..and don't really care otherwise )

I'll go along with your boarding school/hard ass pops theory tho... we all get the s**t kicked out of us from time to time in life..
but doesn't mean we are somehow anointed to dish out karma to every pitiful fool that crosses our path eh m8?

    peace yo

p.s. while you are well in touch with your critical side.. watch the news sometimes?
this guy is from Greece, where the populace and the econ has been trashed due to poor
monetary policy.. this dude is still strying to do something positive and creative despite
the harsh realities he is already facing.. more power to ya @argyrisk !!

Your more than welcome if that will help you come to terms with negative critique... make sure to post some of your work too .. would only be fair of course :mates:

and... i dont dish out negative critique to every 'pitiful fool' that comes along....just to be clear.

I have a version of more than words too..AND.. whats going on.. :hillbilly:

If a dude isnt in music in Some way to have Some effect on a woman.. maybe he's not in the market for females... I dunno.. just sayin' :chilling:

Perhaps ill do some hard, industrial stuff for angry teenage boys?

nah..that's not my bag baby...

25 years and my life is still, tryin' to get that great big hill of hope... for my destinaaaatiiion..

Hi! My opinion about your song is... I feel a nice attempt for experimentation but
with a repetitive beat. Too much experimentation on the same repetitive beat
lose the feeling, lose the vibe and the gradual goal of producing a sequence of notes
that succeed in an unexpected and surprising way without lost cohesion and coherence with the structure of his music. Feel the music. Music is feeling. Sorry my English and Good look!

This is the only bit I really disagree with. I think when you're starting out, just feeling your way around blindly is a lot slower than throwing a track out there to a community of musicians and saying "tell me what you hear".

    :dunno:
    To each his own. Cheers

Whilst previously only "real" musicians in a band could create demo tracks, any teenager can now download some pirated software and learn to compose a "track" with very little musical skill, knowledge or artistic ability.

99.8% of us on here will never make any money from the tracks we create, or get listeners for our tracks above a couple of hundred. That is because although to our own ears, our productions don't sound too dissimilar to the some of the more mediocre B-sides that were produced by expensive studios a 20 or so years back, the reality is that in a world where tens of thousands of new tracks are put "out there" every day, all we are really doing in creating our tunes is to try and impress ourselves (and perhaps to also impress those family and friends around us who don't know how technology has removed a certain minimum skill level.)

@One Reason - To my ears, those tracks of yours just sound really old-fashioned. But obviously there is something about them that you like so at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

yes, older songs, from an older dude.. nothing wrong with that I reckon.... I'm certainly not trying to be fashionable.

if being fashionable is dragging loops into a daw, filteringthe shit out of them and talking along with them, folks can have it.... not for me.

    Personally, i will never be a Trap-Boom-Dubstep-EDM-4X4-Filtered-to death-Nonsense-lyrics-over-producer

Melodies, harmonies, decent chord progressions, thoughtful lyrics.great vocals.. thats where it is... in my mind at least.

Perhaps one day the music world will come back around to its senses... and us oldER skool folks will have our day again.
