Interesting. I am going to change my reference tuning on my next project just to try it. http://www.wakingtimes.com/2015/09/...y-dna-tuning-and-the-bastardization-of-music/ A lot of blues bands tune down a little. Maybe it's instinctive, besides the way it makes a guitar sound different.
Some nice science mixed in with a load of psuedo-science psychobabble. This paragraph made me laugh the most. "Note the visible light spectrum and colour wavelengths. Look for 528 and notice where you land: in the region of the “green ray”, esoterically speaking. The higher harmonic of the green ray/frequency is absorbed and metabolised by the heart chakra vortex. It is no coincidence that the wavelength of visible light at 528 nm is also green. The one is a harmonic of the other. If humanity needs to supercharge anything in our bioenergetic anatomy at this point, it is surely our heart intelligence, which conduces to compassion, empathy, and intuition. (We have more than enough of the cunning of the ego-driven cephalic intelligence.) Here lies a clue to the potency and importance of C=528 but I don’t want to digress too far." Lol.
I've tried 432 Hz in some Upright solo stuff using some victorian tuning and it worked really well. I fail to see the science of the article unless chakras et similia are now commonly accepted explanations by the scientific community. I guess the title pretty much summarizes the author's position (calling standardization of tuning "bastardization") without further doubts. The only problem is he forgets to see that a common reference is very useful in music (instead of changing a lot even from a city to another) and is not a taboo to change it. European orchestras for example sometimes use a sharper tuning (442 Hz to make music more exciting) or a flatter 415 Hz for Baroque stuff. It is a suggestion not a nazi-thing imposed to the world as the article states. Give me a break!
Maybe because i'm used to 440, but i find 432 like sending sad and dark vibration. Just don't get what people see, feel or hear in it other than has something to do with other natural frequencies. It does not sound to me any better, actually much worse.
(a side note) There are few reasons for that i my case: - the blues guitarists like the strings action to be a bit higher, so when You play, You get every note a few cents higher in pitch (it is a kind of compensation) - When soloing, if the guitar is tuned a few cents lower, it makes You unconsciously bend almost every note, and that gives that interesting soulful blues touch to Your playing... it takes a little to get used to it, but in time it becomes natural to play that way. (tho 432 is a little too low to blend wit the other instruments if they are tuned to 440) Interesting thread
hello, true tuning secrets seeking fellow members , fascinating thread, impressive opinions... along with all the sites attempting to quasi-monopolise the opinions about these things, here is one article that also is worth to read, perhaps might help in making up our minds too, including mine long ago spongiformificated brain tissues in me cranium, hopefully benefiting both hemispheres. all the best for all of us... later edit, post scriptum, would those beautiful water resonances not rather be dependent on the size of the vessel too? even later edit, post scriptum, if legally possible, would you please, pray do, share the results? Nice thread..... interesting reading indeed A bit off topic, but I´ve heard that some jazz pianists prefer their piano being tuned a bit higher (½ note) because it gives them a more crispy sound, also traditional irish musicians (people like Frankie Gavin) from Galway region prefer a higher pitch (also ½ note)! Music has many interesting physic aspects! Also the whole thing about Das Wohltemperierte Klavier wich basically made the piano out of tune!
Not this again. It's all relative. You should go 424Hz, because it's even darker/lower/looser/more purple/raggadizzle than 432Hz. Besides, you can also just transpose everything a semitone down...or...wow...-32 cents!! "Em sounds better than Fm!!!" /BS rant over Last edited: Jan 10, 2016
A440 is a road between Pershore and Great Malvern A432 is a road between Bristol and Old Sodbury both aren't far from where i live, and honestly these roads are what i first thought of when i saw the thread title!
Fortunately noise musics or industrial related mostly do not deal with these shitologies. Just wasting of time. Don't let the history of tuning repeats again. Last edited by a moderator: Jan 10, 2016
There is absolutely no science in the 432 universal harmony scam. The only science is about ratios, which are a relative measure (so 440 or 432 are the same, given that you tune their octave at 880 or 864) or about the history of diapasons that varied in Europe from 1500's to 2000's from 350 to 550 Hz
The only real science you gonna find in the 440 432 battle is that the 432 is a more natural ratio corresponding to the golden ratio... does that mean it is better? nope. Does that mean it is magic? nope. Does that mean it is purer? nope. What this only means is it is different. The reason we find it nice to hear is because it is more mellow and soft than 440 only because it is lower (but not so much) than it. We are used to 440. But if you look around, as you said, blues bands have done it, jazz bands have done it... but the one who does this all the time (lower and higher than 440) are orquestras. And the graph of the circles over the water... that's bullshit, that's chladni's studies and varies according to the mass of the object and the volume it haves at the moment of the test. if you thin down or thick up the object tested, the response to certain frequencies changes
Simply detuning your guitar slightly is not going to bring out the magic of this 432hz voodoo. It requires quite a bit of woodworking as well, moving every fret to correspond with the ratios of pythagorean temperament instead. This is obviously some BS and appears to be mostly propagated by the loonies of the Schiller institute.
there was a "freak" on Youtube talking about all that... organs, churches, resonances... give me a sec to find it; it was an old flower power dude if I remember well... (if still on Youtube) EDIT: Here it is Very funny and amazing to listen to... I think it fits into threads like this. the arguments are floating between science and BS ... the perfect balance. Great as a story when You put Your kids to bed He deserves a few ounces of grass for the story Last edited: Jan 10, 2016
Briefly skimmed through the replies, and didn't see the biggest one. Maybe it's because I'm too old....But....432 is also how 'Prince' tunes....that man sure had a lot of hits, not to mention, I saw the Musicology tour, and that live show blew me away! Now that I scroll up, I see Baxter said "more purple" maybe implying his fore mentioned purple-ness......maybe not. And boy, that video with the flower power dude....now that is somethin! too funny.
