    Hi guys..

We all know and have diffrent skill lvls in this thing called music. Some of us produce, some are excellent musicians etc. Some call it art some call it crafting depending on what we do. Starting out for more than 30 years ago in a band trying to get babes by having long hair and acting out as bad as we could it was alot of fun. Today things look a little diffrent. No Hair, Getting balled and all haha..

But now down to what im kind of wonder. Thing is and beeing honest here, back in the days both artists and producers had their "sound". You could hear very clear either by style or sound that it was this producer or artist doing that song etc. Sure there are still some today. And ofc a get that its so much earier to "release" something today than decades ago but still. Just going over the styles in music that lay close to my heart, rock, metal etc, i wonder where did the orginality go? They all sound pretty much the same. Same Djent guitars, same clicky kicks and so on. The same or Even worse with other styles like EDM etc. Same sounds, same leads, same stabs same same same.. It cant be that they all use the same like Serum, Sylenth or even worse Nexus etc..

So, to you guys i wonder how you look at it. What makes an artist/producer like, lets say Timbaland stick out from the rest. Is it hes choices of sound on drums and keys etc or is it just that he writes better songs than the rest? Many may dont care and only listen to a good song while some as me can hear and reall y enjoy a sound from an artist/producer no matter who is performing it?

Would love to hear your input on that, if anyone understand what the f*** im talking about that is..

Just saying,,, Hug each guys ;)

As I am old (maybe not as old as you) I totally agree on the sound-part. What proveils is the quality of the songs/performance/musicianship/etc. That's what catches my "ear" these days. Even if it's annoying to listen through tons of crap to find those jewels. It's hard these days to find the "talents" underneath the slickly produced tracks. But they are there.
For example (as a reference), when I discovered Zedd a few years back I was as excited as when I first heard Smells Like Teen Spirit on MTV.

    Also, getting "balled" sucks.

Timbaland really had great percussive rhythms whether it where voice fx or keyboard drum sounds.
it was really carrying his whole sound, in addition to that the lack of quantization really made his music diffrent from the rest in his area.

I agree with @Baxter that it's not easy to find gems these days... I grew up in times when music was just exploding
with good songs... those were good times..
I find most of the "electronica" and the dub wub dnb stuff.. has such a sameness to me...
so maybe the times have passed me by...in fact I'd just as soon listen to some noob's tryout track here than the top tier
    "producer" stuff...

I'd say an artist needs to come across as "real" rather than "produced" ,
and to really make it.. needs to be something "original" about the music.
It is not easy to define.. but just like Baxter said.. when you hear it.. you know it Just like he said... the first time I heard Teen Spirit.. I just knew this band kicked ass !!

I'm lucky enough to still have only a small "balled" spot ...

I hope i dont turn this into a hair loss clininc now but yeah, went for shaving it all aoff and thats how its been now for 25+ years now >;)

But i totally agree with you guys and that your hear when something sticks out.. so then, What is it that WE hear that sticks out. Like Max Martin when he wrote pretty much for any big artist. You heard it was him behind the song even if it was in diffrent dresses like Backstreet Boys or Bon Jovi. There are many expamples of that. So it cant only be sound or?

hmm. Maybe ive smoke to much odf something but i have really "snowed" in on this now.. Wanna find the Holy Graal :D
