    hey guys
so recently i came across a few super old masterbits sample cds and I have absolutely no idea how to extract them. they're not like original akai format cds.
i've tried using CDXTRACT to extract them and tried to mount the disk image (a .bin file) to play in Kontakt but nothing worked!
Does anyone know how in the world I can extract the CDs?
    The titles are:
    Masterbits Hot Keys
    Masterbits Tekkno T.R.A.X.

CDXtract or Translator should work. You must be doing something wrong. I used CDXtract to convert loads of my ASR-10 samples to WAV, but it was 7-8 years ago in Windows XP. It could be that your operating system is playing tricks on you. I still use both Windows XP and 7 because I cannot transfer samples from my E-MU 4 over SCSI in W7, let alone W8 or W10. If you want your older hardware to work, stick to the older software, too.

I don't have my original ASR-10 sounds any more so I cannot check it for you. Native Instruments Kontakt should be able to read Ensoniq disks too, since it uses a Translator sample converter library.

I would try to do it with Windows XP and CDXtract, as that worked for me before.

    Good luck! :mates:

Have you tried to import the .bin in Kontakt or mount it as a CD drive and then open it in Kontakt?
If all recommended suggestions here fail, you could try the following (haven’t tried it myself):
Install Ghisler's Total Commander and the following plugin:
    http://thoralt.ehecht.com/projects/ensoniqunpacker/ensoniqunpacker.html
Then you open the ensoniq CD image (must be a Mode-1 CD image) and if you’re lucky, you will see some ensoniq files.
If not, I’d try to convert the .bin to .iso (google for such tools) and try again.
Make sure you read the plugin description, not every step is trivial!

Update: I've just checked on Mac and I was able to load the image in Kontakt directly.
    Here's what I did:
    - open terminal
    - run: "bchunk -v ensoniq.bin ensoniq.cue out.iso" (you might need to install homebrew and run "brew install bchunk")
    - run: "sudo hdiutil attach -imagekey diskimage-class=CRawDiskImage -mount suppressed out01.iso"
You have to add the "supressed" option or otherwise OS X will expect to mount a valid filesystem, which ensoniq's fs of course isn't ;-)

After the hdiutil attach command, the mounted raw image will appear in the Kontakt file browser under "Virtual Drives" and each native ensoniq program will load perfectly!

fiction, I'm sorry but I don't have a Mac. I'm running Windows 10 home premium on an i7 core laptop with 8 gb ram. Does anyone have a Windows fix?

The fix is to install VirtualBox, then install virtual Windows XP in it, then extract the samples with CDXtract in it. Problem solved.

Of course, just use DaemonTools to mount the CD image and open the new virtual ensoniq drive inside Kontakt.

I did exactly just that but nothing shows up when I go to the folder where the .bin file is in kontakt! If anything, could someone (if they have the time and are up for the challenge) just convert those sample CDs that I mentioned in the original post to .wav and upload them somewhere? I feel like I should just give up; I've tried all those methods given to me and still, nothing opens the .bin files!

try to convert the cue/bin set to iso - havent used win for many moons but as far i can remember i did the conversion using nero or extreme sample converter ... mounting the cue/bin and storing as iso (that way you could also strip empty partitions from akai discs, making them smaller)

No, you obviously haven't tried all methods...
You NEED to mount the CD image as a virtual CD drive (using Daemon Tools or a similar CD image mounter), so Kontakt can recognize an ensoniq-formatted CD.
Have you scrolled down to the bottom in Kontakt's file browser?
You should have an entry "Virtual Drives" that you have to open.
Selecting the .bin (or .iso) file in the file system won't work because Kontakt does not know the "bin" or "iso" sample format.
    Got it?

Whenever I try to mount it with daemon tools, and also poweriso, I get the message that "The file is in an invalid or unsupported format."

    So you tried chickensys translator?
It's a walk in the park compared to cdxtract.

Yes, I did. The .bin file never even showed up in the explorer.

I am not very knowledgable in this area but I do know that FMJ-Software's Awave Studio along with Extreme Sample Converter 3 have been of great use to me over the years in opening/converting shitloads of the various formats that are out there, Chicken Systems software as already mentioned by many is what I would of also mentioned

Hope that is of some use and someone or persons more versed in this area can help you out :)

    All the best

i'm telling you i can't mount it. and it's a bin file so it's much trickier. i also read all things in the kontakt manual related to sample cds.

Man, I already wrote in my first post:
    Is that so difficult? :snuffy:
I'm sure you know how to use Google and how to install Windows programs.

I really like to help, but I won't do the work for you.
