There is no cheating in music. An arpreggio is simply a sequence made up of different notes. Don't let your doubt get in the way of your creativity.

I have a project which is all loops. Do I think it's cheating? No. Because I'm recreating the project in a different DAW, adding a few FX, and remixing it into surround.

No. Meanings are in people, not words.

I don't think you understand what was said...And using ALL loops is like tracing a beautiful painting. I have been able to trace pictures since I was a young child, but I can't draw very well... That takes skill and practice.

It's not that it isn't real music when you use all loops, it just doesn't make you a musician...Just a paste master.

We could go on for ages arguing about loops. I don't think you are a musician because you haven't used any musical skills to achieve it... And you feel you are, and think you are on par musically for your pasting and changing to surround...End of story.

I don't think there is any reason to start throwing any insults around, and to start name calling. We all have our opinions and It's fine to voice them, but don't hate on someone who doesn't see Eye to Eye with yours. Voice how you feel and move on. To each his own, is the best solution for this. If you don't agree with using ARPS don't, if you do, no harm no foul. Lets keep it civil my friends.

I think maybe what should be said is musicians play instruments anyone can play a loop. Are the Arps played via a keyboard?
If so you are still triggering notes in the correct key and playing to me.

    I think its cheating
I even think its cheating using Ez Drummer but i have to use it as i dont play in a band anymore
So i could not record a REAL drummer (and i dont know any good drummer where i live right the only drummer i could think of that can play my complicated songs lives 1000 miles from my home and he have his own band)
And my drumming skills for the music i mostly play (progressive rock/metal) is not up to the level it needs for the music so i have to use the midi library in Ez drummer and then tweak it to not sound so robotic.
I do however play some drums on less complicated music like ballads and simple rock songs and i play all other instruments i need for my songs like bass and simple keyboard stuff mostly simple chords and simple melodys nothing complicated

Arps doesn't make you a composer or even a musician. But again, the ability to play 5 octaves of arps prestissimo doesn't make you either

I never said I did write it, I simply posted it.

I dont think it is cheating, UNLESS your ENTIRE production is all loops from packs. You can use loops, and alter then , apply FX, chop then, etc.

Can you show me a rule book of music production that states the rules on "cheating"? Yeah its frowned upon in some sense, definitely more with some people but, there are ways you can be creative with loops from packs.

Cheating to me is taking an easy route to accomplish things (usually due to not having enough knowledge or skill to do it and thereby not displaying any musical talent).

Arps are just a series of notes. No harm there, I don't think. You can probably break down each note and find out which notes were played if you had to. I use them from time to time if I don't feel inspired by anything or if I just looovvvee the sound being played.

Loops? Not altered and changed in any way? Yea that's cheating. And i don't mean just adding effects and stuff like that. I'm talking about chopping it up, sampling it, reversing it,etc...to recreate a totally new masterpiece. That, while not necessarily showing much musical talent, at least still required creativity. I could let that pass as sampling is an artform in itself. But most loop users I know are usually just drag and drop users, which is sad. Where is the authenticity?

Create your own work. Be proud of it and know it came from you. What happened to when music was from the soul and demonstrated your ability/creativity? I'm a fairly young guy (27), but I must say the technology we have available to us today has made our generation lazy.

I don't want to be like that, and that's why I'm forcing and teaching/practicing my piano every day. I could pencil in notes all day or take guesses at notes till it sounds good (and i've made several good beats like that), but I at the end of the day I want to look in the mirror and be proud of what I did, call myself a musician, and know I didn't just click in notes or copy paste (loops or notes) till I got a hit.

    You think ? Man...
    • Arpeggios are cheating indeed, you shouldn't use them
    • ... Playing music from a computer is cheating , a computer ain't an instrument
    • ... Playing music from an electric guitar or a synth is cheating , because real music bear no electronic
    • ... Playing a grandpiano or a cello is cheating too... It uses modern metal technologies that weren't in the mind of the great pre-romantic composer.
    • You can play on baroque music instruments. So you'll please the 3 smuggy retarted downers from your city who can't bear cheating in music.
You're surrounded by asshole who will take a dump on you as soon as they'll be jealous of your innocent and progressive way of life. You don't need those Ayatollah's approval in any way.
