    Hello,
any idea on good sounding Irish Low Whistle for Kontakt with at least two velocity layers and 2 octaves range?
    I tried these:
    • Symphobia 2 - great, but it's only in D
    • EWQL RA - single velocity layer
    • Ethno World 5 - sounds pretty terrible to me as well as anything from this library (just subjective matter)
    • Kontakt Factory Library Irish Flute - 4 velocity layers, almost excellent, yet samples very short and producing the "wavy" pingpong-loop effect
Westgate Rare Winds - demos were really great, but it's still not released by any team

    Any more suggestions?
    Thank you

A real Irish Low whistle is infact (original) in D! And has no accidentials as a concert flute has!

Best I´ve heard so far is the Kontakt Factory Lib Irish Flute - and its cromatic ... has accidentials! You just need to work with the sound inside the patch!

    Best

There are some libraries. Not too large, but usefull

    • PrecisionSound Nordic Low Whistle
    • Big Fish Audio Celtic Instruments (contains low whistle)
    • Zero-G - Celtic (found only GIG-version but kontakt can open it too; this library contains wooden flute and overtone flutes suit)

Mind that whistle is not chromatic but diatonic tuning instrument. In this way it can perform only limited number of chromatisms (usually between 3-4 and 7-8 major scale degrees). Of course, sampler can stretch the tone to any scale degree, but if you want to play like "real whistler" you'd better to stick to diatonic system. As for symphobian low whistle in D, try to use pitch band automation to obtain scales other than D and G major. For example, lowing only 3d degree (F#) of D-major by semitone you obtain C-major (natural A-minor) scale; raising just 4th degree (G) up to semitone you can play in A major (F# natural minor, A melodic minor) and so on.
