i have the old nebula but also use the newer nebula/acqua plugins like trinity, amber, honey, magenta, ivory... will have navy very soon as well...they dont murder cpu's as much but they do have a much higher usage but for the sound you get, who cares.. if you have to print the plugins and inactivate the plugs.

Lindell is a step up over waves and many others the 254E is awesome..

Slate has some great eq's itb in vmr as does uad..
VMR gets used on 90% of my mixes and every mix has a atr102 tape emulation on it... a partner of mine just let me know about a hardware tape emulator that his ppl will be releasing in the next few weeks and only like $400.. i'll be buying to a/b to the atr102 and a800

  4. Satin= very, very good to me. Soft and velvety, like cashmere in the hand.

it really depends on the vocal performance if u know what i mean :) . on cheap vocals i throw in the stock stuff. the better the vocal gets the better compressor it deserves. for Adele-quality i'd drop in Klanghelm's MJUC for sure, which sounds like hardware. for "ok" pop vocal, SLate's 1176 in the rack. backing vocals, stock.

Wow ... So much love for the MJUC on vocals here. Gonna have to give it a chance. I bought it the day it came out, but have only so far given it a shot on bass.

I like to let my vocals hit a tape emu first (Satin's my choice) to shave off the liveliest spikes. Then into the NI/Softube VC2A (the only 2A emu I like on vocals) at 50/50 wet for further leveling. Later on, after EQ and such, I put something with some character on there like C165a, and recently also sometimes +10dB with the ratio at 1:1 . . . But all this will change tomorrow when confronted with another singer through another mic destined for different material.

Really been hearing great things about this one. It was recently on sale 50% off through Pluginboutique but I missed it by one day. Biding my time now until it goes on sale again.

this is really a tough one even harder than fav eq
it really depends on the program and quality needed
it isn´t always desired to have a clean sound, sometimes colored as fuck is cool
    some comps worth mentioning

    dirty as fuck :)
sonlaksis über comp (does everything most vendors try to eliminate, sooo fun)

with a range from clean to fucked up
mpressor, dsm, abbey road, c6 mb

    bread and butter
ieq, pro mb, ssl duende, api 250, rcomp, sonnox
    daw comps
