Music making is fun, challenging, and $$$ rewarding. I went to music school on weekends as a kid. Main instrument was piano, but I'd sneak into other classes; learned a bit of drums and guitar. I f**king hated theory and reading music, so I learned to play by ear. My best friend at the time was in a kid boyband and I got to hang around a studio with him a lot. I learned a bit about production and engineering.

Years later, this guy who built and sold desktop computers for a living heard me playing piano, told me I was pretty good, and I should get into producing with a computer. So he built my first computer, gave me a cracked copy of Reason v1, a Tascam mixer, and introduced me to the world of torrenting/pirating. He also showed me AudioZ around the time it first launched, but I had no idea what a VST was or how to use it; all I knew was Reason.

Started producing hip hop, R&B, and reggae. Did a bit of Acoustic/Indie/Pop with bands, producing and mix, throughout college. As hip hop became the commercial garbage it is today, I looked into other genres. I produced and released house, some commercial EDM, and experimented with old school dubstep (before it went crazy and complex with a million bass sounds per bar). Now I'm returning to my roots of classical composition, regretting that I didn't learn theory well as a kid . Wish I had a Delorean and flux capacitor.

True definition of bittersweet that. Well, sweet for you, not so much for the band.

It runs in the family. My uncle was in a band back in the day. We're all from Detroit. He has credits in Motown records. So I kind of picked up on it back when I was 14 years old. I'm 28 now. I started off on the guitar, then went to piano, then bass, now trumpet. I made a conscious decision that I wanted to make music when I was 16. Was struggling pretty hard. On the porch with my brother and a friend of mine. I sat there and I said "Why is everybody else moving, but we sitting still? Look at all these celebrities in the world, making money, helping their families. What are we doing? Just sitting here." So at first, I did it because I just wanted to get out of the hood. But by the time I was 18, I realized that I really enjoyed making music. So besides the motive to help my family with my music, I do this because it's my calling and my passion. Got into making beats on FL Studio, switched to Reason, switched back to FL Studio. Been on it ever since. Been contemplating on switching to Ableton. I tried Cubase, Reaper, Studio One and a whole bunch of other things but Ableton is alluring. Over the course of 14 years, I've gotten into all forms of music in the music spectrum. And fortunately for me, I love everything. So making a trap beat and then switching to heavy metal was never a problem for me. Opened more avenues for me. All I do now is read and learn, mixing, mastering, sound design, deal with clients, building my brand.

I sort of stumbled into production, and when I say into, I mean just on the outer fringes, because I don't think what I do is classed as production. I was 17 when I first got a set of Technics SL1200 Turntables and I got very good at creating 15 minute mixes, all before the invention of Serato etc. But I hated the sound quality of the recordings I got (Old cassette players and reel to reel just wasn't cutting it)

Cut a long story short. Computers eventually became faster and mastering tools got cheaper (damn,I REALLY love this site ) and with years and years of arranging and mixing practice I moved into mastering.

My favourite hobby now though is converting midis and trying to emulate, or improve on the original tracks.

My dad. We both liked sounds, cables and knobs. Dad rehearsed in the basement with his band and he used to work in an electronic hardware store (c64, ABC80, TVs VCRs, etc) and later as a camera man and video editor for a local TV-station.
I coded my first sound in Basic on a c64 when I was 12. Let's just say one thing led to the next.

The reason why I write music is to give back to the people who have given me a reason to live. I have gone from homeless to living on someone's couch doing this to getting married to a loving and supporting partner. We both do this together now. If it was not for the internet and places like Audioz/Audiosex, I honestly do not know where I would be right now.

Member/founder of a Hardcore band. We recorded a 3-tracks demo back in 2009 and I was amazed by the process. Later, the mix disappointed me a lot and I felt the urge to rework it. I enjoyed it so much that I told myself "one day, i'll record bands too". And now, since 2013, I'm enjoying each recording session ! Sound engineers are the people who make a band's dream come true : hearing themselves and spreading their art. I'm proud being one of this people, even though I still need a lot of work (and money...) to be a good one. It's a passion that impacts a whole life and that never goes.
