I had the pleasure to record some songs with 3 girls.
Guitar, violin and accordion sets the background and when they begin to sing I melt with joy at how good it sounds. But maybe I can get even better with a little help from my friends here?

    My final mix???

I agree you need reverb on lead vocal together with compression to standout more. the back vocals need to be wider , low back vocals are some sort hidden so need slight volume up but in general the recording is so good especially the lead vocal.

I am just gonna say that is good to see/hear something more than electronic music here. I really liked it.

I do have reverb, 3.5 % in mix, (and compression) on both lead and background vocals but I can bleed it up a bit. And I use a stereo widener (waves) on the background vocals. I have a really nice vocal room in the studio and some nice microphones to capture this warm and clear sound. I use to have a much deeper and round sound on the guitar but this time it did not fit in the mix ... But I will try more with small steps ;)

    Thanks!

I listened several times before writing this. I have no constructive comments but I felt the need to tell you how much I like this song.

Oh, and I like the lyrics. :bleh: [happy X-mass, One Reason]

Stellar, and YES, a real pleasure to hear something posted other than EDM. This is real nice work -- sure, the same desire as others mentioned to hear some compression and reverb on the lead vocal, but I think you probably already knew that before you posted it.

This is just really good, promising stuff. You should be proud.

  11. Nice tune but the Ssssss is hurtful to ears. I would probably choose another mic that had more body and less sizzle. What mic did you use, and which have you access to, as well as which preamps are at your disposal? The guitar sounded as if you didn't find the sweet spot with the mic and is kind of boomy, wooly to me. The accordion sounded good. Thanks for sharing.

soft reverb or a spacious delay would finish the vocal in a great way.
but would already give this song a 9/10 rating

The mix is almost fine. I would just add interesting effects on the voice and also a de-esser.
Maybe also a break that adds a contrasting change.

I will digg/cut in to the high sss area using some eq. The guitar will be better soon, the body and the shimmering are "on tape" but I did not like it in the first mix I did ... but I will try to do better ... ;)

Hey man, this is a great song ! Great vocals and everything. Do you think you could send me the individual tracks ? I'd really love to try a mix, then I can send it to you ! For free of course. I just got out of the SAE Institute in Brussels and I'd love to mix this. Up to you ! If not, it's ok, btw, your mix sounds quite good !

Thomas, I'd really like to hear what you can do with the song, but right now I'm in the midst of the process of making an ep with the girls and would rather get some tips on what you think would make it better ... Later when we are satisfied and happy with the way we've got it sonically, I am ready to let go of the tracks and would like to share the tracks to passionate and creative friends out there in the world ;)

    Thanks all!

    Ok no problem !

First, I would make the choirs left and right. If there's only one backing vocal track, put a Haas effect on it or a plugin like the Waves Doubler2, lower the middle signal to low or 0(inside Doubler2). I know people suggested reverb on vocals, but this is too much for me. It feels kind of right @ 50 seconds in the "chorus" and towards the end though, but in the begining it makes the vocals cold compared to the warmness of the instruments. Other than that, it's a pretty good mix IMO.

    Peace
