    Hey guys,

    I'm looking for a good sounding but small sized string library that I can use. I don't really do heavy or serious orchestral work so I just need something small and simple for my basic needs...

    Are there any good quality string libraries thats also small on file size?

    Thanks :)

    Once I was also in search of the same and apart from old Miroslav philamornica and Garitan there was nothing else. Yes some soundfonts but they are all obsolete including the former mentioned ones. One more option was Edirol orchestral. But then I finally realised that it's better to have everything in one so I went for Symphobia 1. These options are still available if you wanna check.

    YES! This is something that I'm looking for, simple and effective and sounds decent enough to test out and experiment with different chords and melodies :)

    Thanks cuz :)

    Ensemblia doesn't allow you to make custom melodies, it's more of a loop player. Session Strings is a good option

    How about the string section of Kontakt factory library orchestra? Nobody talks about it, but the samples come from Vienna SL.

    Well, perhaps too big for the topic.

    The full Factory Library of Kontakt 5 is 23 GB. It takes some trickery to use (read: you'll need lots of volume automation and separate reverb to make it sound good). But yes, it is an option indeed if you have legit Kontakt that you use anyway.

    Proof that I know what I'm talking about, here's Kontakt 5 Factory Library (with external percussion and harp, but strings, brass and woodwinds are stock):

    Session Strings (the old one, not Session Strings Pro) is 1.65 GB unpacked and should get you going if you're not going 100% orchestral

    Audiobro LASS First Chair 2.0, 1.2GB, better than Session Strings for me. Other hand, many string library sizes are huge cause of different mic channel samples. Example, original 8Dio Adagio Basses 1 = 10 GB, i kept just close mic samples, delete far and mix channel samples now i got 3.6 GB. If i need to recreate far and mix channels i could use convolution reverbs. Of course it cant be like original records but better than keeping 10 GB for me.

    Project Sam Symphobia 1 (around 9 GB), lots of sounds, has brass and wood as well, volume automation is not through CC1. Single mic.
    Project Sam Orchestral Essentials (6.5 GB), bigger variety of sound, but not a lot of depth, rest is similar to Symphobia1 (No CC1, single mic, etc).
    Sonokinetic Da Capo (around 5 GB), full orchestra like Orch essentials, multi-mic, vol-automation through CC1, also offers "lite" patches. This is the option that I recommend.

    I'm also following this thread since I could use something similar. Would very much prefer something available on the sister site so I can still try it before I end up saving money for it.

    Also, I hope I don't impede on the topic with this but I personally also welcome suggestions for orchestral brass libraries since I actually think they are even harder to find if you want them to sound any good.

    For overall strings, 8Dio Adagietto is great, though it's 14 GB. Close and far mic, separate and ensemble patches + legato versions of those (GREAT sounding legatos, tho)

    I don't get it. There are several orchestral Libraries without Kontakt Player version. Do you mean there is a Kontakt Player version of Kontakt factory library? I didn't know that...

    If you buy Kontakt, it comes with the Factory Library. Also, there's a free version of it with a selection from that library. I'm not sure what's included though.

    Session Strings (even PRO) cannot really handle orchestral stuff because it is a small string ensemble recorded in a small studio. Those kind of strings are more appropriate for a modern production and some very basic stuff in orchestral terms. Quality is good and that's their strong point. In orchestral contest I would use them only layered with other strings or if I need to create a concertino part. I think the Kontakt factory library is much better for orchestral stuff because you get a little bit of everything and can already start writing for the entire orchestra. The kontakt library also has some solo instruments. If you need only the orchestral sounds their size should be around 15 GB which is not much compared to other strings library. If space is a huge issue and you need basic mockups then Garritan or the old Miroslav Philharmonik is the way to go, but be prepared to get nerdy if you want them to sound decent. :bleh:

    Session Strings is the best option I know of with 2.4 GB ... small, lol.
    A "good quality" Lib is one that sounds as close as it gets to natural, isn`t it? Means, inevitably, "disc space" ...
    Would be nice to have a "small" K-Instruments list with tiny, little quick reviews, a custom AS-Repository, not necessarily freebies.

    Ensemblia 1.5 (Full) has a Longs & Shorts.nki, the latter one has a sequencer build in that can be switched on ... or off.
    Absolutely, you can play own melodies with it! Considering the the fact of asking for 630mb on disc I find it a pretty stunning piece.

    @Xupito
    With NI Maschine you get a copy of Kontakt/Reaktor Player. The fore mentioned library selection is included as Komplete teaser.
    I never tried to make the full Factory Lib work in K-Player, though.

    @HETISFRANK
    Just released: NI Brass Solo & Ensemble ... :hahaha:

    Sorry chopin4525, I think you missed the point. I know we orchestral nerds need all those stuff, and Adagio/Symphobia/LASS/Cinematic Strings/CineStrings is the way to go, but... it's just overkill since I guess OP just wants to add some strings to his "phat trap beat"/"filthy dubstep track" to be released on soundcloud. No offence intended (maybe just a little pun), but... he doesn't need 20 GBs of articulations.
