I'd like to know how PT compares to the other top contenders in terms of features and ease of use, etc. I'd do this myself, but I don't have the time. Thank you.

i like it the best for recording, mixing, mastering. but you compare midi, using virtual instruments, and flexibility of those then pro tools is in the dust. sure you can do it, BUT it holds nothing to cubase in those terms. So if you do mostly midi based stuff, go with cubase

Pro tools is a great daw for recording especially when you have avid brand gear or a studio filled with avid gear that can all integrate in with Pro tools. otherwise it's kinda like reaper if you just are using home audio gear

So far for me Pro Tool's seems cold and very unfriendly (Graphics and Workflow)
Love some of the plugins such as Eleven and the Moog stuff.

    Its a time thing...

I recently fell in love with Studio One 3. Love its workflow, really intuitive and similar to Cubase, in my opinion. Some things are missing, like expression maps IIRC, but never used those, so I'm fine with that. Highly recommended.

That said, I couldn't give a damn about Pro Tools. I am, however, glad that it was cracked - I welcome any spit in the face of stupid devs who resorted to using iLok and are now left staring at a monumental trollface hanging over them.

Pro Tools 12.3.1 is just fine. People gripe about PT day & night but it works, sure it took em years to catch up but it works if you put time in!

If You like light coloured interfaces, that is the daw for You :hahaha:

Kidding apart, I use Cubase and Protools, and as workflow I prefer Cubase, but as GUI, I like more Protools.

    - When recording I find myself using PT more often than Cubase
    - When composing I use more often Cubase
    - When mixing I like to use PT `cause I find it to be more relaxing on the eyes due to the lighter colors
    - In regard to plugins, I haven`t find a big difference... maybe only on the look; the PT ones seem more polished.

(I own no Avid gear, so obviously I am missing the "Advantages" that PT offers)

As a conclusion, I like them both.

Now that is cracked, You can test it extensively and see for Yourself if You like it, and would consider buying it.

If I download ProTools, I will spend the next 6 months unlearning/relearning the nuances of a new DAW and make next to no music.

So I won't be doing that.

Pro Tools is a waste of time and money, full of bugs, really bad code, CPU intensive in the majority of processes.
Beat detective is the only good thing, a really good algorithm.

    Avoid Avid corporation!

Ableton Live & Reaper are the winners.

    This question is pointless.
Features are damn near the same across all DAWs now. Only workflow is different.

Ease of use is TOTALLY subjective. Every DAW owner thinks that THEIR DAW is the best, easiest DAW to use. That's because all DAWs have been designed to be easy to use once you learn them. They're even easier to use when you learn the keyboard shortcuts.

This is also because DAW owners will defend their money spending decisions to the death.

This is only fanning the flame of the infamous and pointless DAW wars.
If time is of the essence to you, you'd be better off downloading the Demo and bypassing this bickering.

Better yet, Visit the sister site and give the full versions a run. I promise it will be faster than trying to interpret the contradicting opinions of a bunch of DAW fanboys.

I work with Ableton Live ... Cubase ... Studio One and Pro Tools daily ... Pro Tools exists only because it has become the industry standard ... in truth today it's totally sh*t everything about feels stuck in the 90's.

If you work within the semi/professional audio industry then you need Pro Tools ... else forget it you will achieve far better productivity / workflow in any of the other excellent DAW's out there.

I installed it yesterday just to see how it felt after using 7.4 a decade ago... yeah, it still felt like a DAW from a decade ago. Slow, clumsy, crashy..

Reaper is waaaay better than this crap. :bleh:

Downloaded it, tried it, is slow(compared to others), not intuitive specially on simple tasks, cause more problems with virtual instruments, is more picky on different hardware which don't have AVID somewhere in the name and freeze alot when you change settings. Uninstalled it.

    There is no "best" one...

Jimi Hendrix playing a plank of wood is capable of producing music better than me on a Les Paul...

Pro tools is more famous in USA. Europeans need faster flows.
Just good for recording related process. By looking at all tutorials you'd agree with me.

PT is the easiest DAW to learn. Very very easy. Very straightfoward. In my opinion it's the best daw by far. If you have cubase and pt you don't need anything else. The rest are toys
