I wasn't even aware of this library, but while we are on the subject; has there ever been a verification of watermarked samples? Where exactly are these watermarks embedded? How to isolate them, what information is present in the watermarks?

As a musician and a possible future library developer I would love to find out more as this seems to be the future of copy protection.

There is an easy way to remove them AFAIK.

But I don't know if it would be wise to tell it here.

N.I. would read it and make it more difficult, so just rely on the scene guys ;)

One way is obvious though - have two versions of the library with 2 different watermarks, compare files and fake the watermark.

I don't get the point of watermarking. It's like putting a TM or copyright symbol next to a logo. They would have to prove you stole the audio file.

Surely one could also argue that you could be adding the watermarks yourself to disguise your sample sources yourself.

Whether you buy it legally or not who do they chase? I mean at what point would anyone who makes records be the target,

The only reason for watermarking is to avoid samples being used in other sample CDs and other websites as downloads.

As a musician you should not be concerned.

OMG It seems like they stick their watermarks into everithing that comes to hand! Seriously, I'm sure that watermarking is a big spoof. No absolutely valid method was reported yet. The purpose is not so much that watermarking can protect something; it is that watermarking causes paranoia among people, who belive they are spying.

Gotchi, it is possible that the reason a method is not reported yet is because its being kept secret, because once you know how its done you will eventually figure out ways to cheat it.

Threadkiller, ofcourse it's possible. It's rather wise to keep secrets. But as shown by the use of watermarking technology, people should know that they are holding something watermarked. To prevent themselves from the use of illegal stuff. ie You can hide the application techniques of protection, but not its detection. Let me quote you: "has there ever been a verification of watermarked samples? Where exactly are these watermarks embedded? How to isolate them, what information is present in the watermarks?".Then I can make sure I do not do anything illegal. Otherwise, it looks like to plant some crack into my bag and then imprison me for that. But this is outside the law, isn't it?

Devs like to watermark their stuff so that they can check warez plugs and samples, then blacklist the supplier on their side to slow down or stop pirated releases of updates, as then you would need a resupply.
