If the only VSTi's you use are from NI then you shouldn't hesitate.

But: If you also use VSTi's from other companies then I would go with the Akai Advance.

IMHO one of the main advantages of the Advance is that unlike NI's keyboards, it's not a close product. It means that you do not depend of a company willing to support this keyboard. You can make the mapping by yourself, assuming it's not already done by Akai or another individual using the same VSTi's.

NI perfectly understood this: Feeling the heat from the Advance, they started to open themselves to the outside world. Right now, only Arturia rewrote their plug-ins in order to support NI's keyboards.

Bottom line is that no plug-in needs to be rewritten in order to be supported by Akai keyboard, you can do the mapping by yourself.

This is in my opinion what makes the Akai Advance future proof, compared to NI's offering.

On a 2nd thought, even if I was only using NI's plug-ins, I would still go with the Akai Advance because I will want to have the option to use other companies VSTi's in the future.

Yeah, I agree. I try to avoid closed systems as much as I can. NI aren't doing anything bad, but AKAI's effort with this seems like an advantage that would tip my scale. Also, I appreciate their effort to move you from the screen - that's why I really like the screen on AKAI. Makes jams feel much more organic, even though it's pretty much the same thing.

I love those big, fat Akai pads and the big knobs, man.

    Which Daw are you using?

The Nektar Panorama keyboards have great integration with Reaper, Cubase, Bitwig, Logic and Reason.

If you only use Kontakt or NI plugins, go for the NI one for sure.
I was on the fence for an akai advance myself, but after looking into the nektar panorama p6, it blows them both from the map.

I'm pretty sure Ableton is next on the list when they get the api implemented. My guess is we will hear about it winterNAMM2016 next month.
