I've heard the latest update would remove software from windows 10 that it deems incompatible or illegal. Anyone notice this or knows ways to prevent this?

Removes software it feels is not compatible. Can that be a problem yeah. Does it mean it removes software that wasn't paid for? No proof of that. However Microsoft is over reaching here and that is the problem. I get it 70% of the people in this world are lazy, stupid and need things to be plug and play. It's all around us people. People giving over control for convenience.

Would love to know if anyone has had any of their audio stuff disappear off win 10.

Yes, I would like to know too. For now I'll be using the GWX software to stop all updates. The labtop is new, so I presume it included the brand spanking newest windows 10, which regrettable includes the version that will remove what it deems malicious software.

windows 10 does not remove illegal software but is to new. i was having problems on Cubase but Microsoft fix it with an update, Windows 10 is really good better than windows 8 or 7, is really fast. if you update to windows 10 don't use Microsoft edge is really buggy but music groove is really a good player.

it's a hoax, there's no such thing as auto-removing detected software.

This was a comment on another site:
"The reason Microsoft are doing so bad is because they sacked almost all of their Q&A staff a while back, it's now the responsibility of the developers to test their own code, and for Microsoft insiders to report problems before they reach the general public."

Been using Windows 10 since July, haven't had that problem. The only problem I've had is functionality with dated programs that need updates. So if you have any older programs/plugins, it's best to see if they have an update that's compatible with Win10 first before making the switch.

But so far, so good this way.

Just a piece of advice: I had an enormous headache when one of Windows 10 updates rendered my computer unusable. I had to reinstall Windows all over again.

Luckily, I had the installation DVD around, so instead of formatting, I reinstalled it as if it was just an upgrade, so I didn't have to reinstall of my software.

Beware; Regarding Windows 10 updates, you never know whats coming.

PCs are not Macs. Microsoft has to release updates which are supposed to be compatible with literally an infinite number of hardware combinations, which is obviously impossible. Compatibility issues will most likely happen all the time. That's why I think this hurried up rolling update model will most likely fail.

Since then, I performed a registry trick which stops all updates and had no problems ever since. Despite this serious update issue, it's the best Windows I've used so far; Really fast and snappy.

Ok, the thing that I will give this story, there is _a_ way that software may automatically get uninstalled:

When you perform a windows _upgrade_ they run the compatibility-checker again. Software that is known to cause issues is flagged, and in this case removed during the upgrade process.

The thing is, when you install such software Windows pops up a warning saying there a known incompatibilities with this software (and version) and provides a solution, and tells you the software might be automatically removed during a Windows upgrade.

The thing people are falling over is that for example a 'major patch' in the last month was actually executed technically 'as being an upgrade'. Windows told you 'the new version of windows was getting ready' etc. It was just a simple 'major match', but technically it was an upgrade to Windows 10.01 or something. This meant the software compatibility software was run again. _Again_ software was found which is flagged as not being compatible (and the user choose to install it anyway) but now during the auto-upgrade process it was removed.

Another thing people are falling over is that the functionality to remove software _does_ exist and thus people are getting paranoid if it ever might be 'misused' by Microsoft (or by some other company telling Microsoft what to do).

The first thing they have a point: An auto-update which runs automatically and decides to remove software (even if it is for your own good) is not a neat thing to do. In this case, the auto-update should have paused / halted and presented the user with a 'yes continue' or 'no postpone' kind of question. The moment the software in question was installed though the user had been warned. Still, not a nice thing to do.

To the second thing: _EVERY_ OS has the functionality to remove software remotely. iOS has it, Android has it, Windows (now) has it, Mac has it. Even popular Linux distros have it. This is not a new thing, and it is not exclusive to Windows at all (Windows was even one of the latest to include stuff like this). If you're afraid of companies misusing it, you simply don't use a PC... Manufacturers of operating systems have to juggle 'let the user be in control' and 'protected users who do not know better' all the time, and every single one of them decided that in the case software spreads through the internet that is wrecking machines, it's better to have the option to remotely kill the software than to bow to the paranoia of people thinking it should not be in there.

Agree or don't agree, that's another question completely.

Yeah I have one: Don't fall for this so called "free windows 10 update"
If your win 7 or win 8 is running well without problems, win 10 will not make it run better!
Newer, newer, newer, faster, faster, faster, better, better, better...
