Do you spend more time audio browsing online or working on sound/projects?

I admit I spend too much time audio browsing (for education).
I need to SHUT OFF this internet 'cause it's gettin' in the way in the way LOL

 

First browser as much as you can to find all the stuff you are interested so when you find enough material shut down internet for some time period concetrate practice and learn, and all over again this is sisyphus work.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. When I'm on a "sh*t hot" project, I don't surf at all. Finding enough time to slam down all of the ideas in my head often requires insanely long hours of concentration and hardly any sleep. On the other hand, when I'm banging my head against my desk because I've reached that point where nothing sticks together, I'll deliberately surf for hours and hours in order to stop myself obsessing over some trivial detail in the mix. It helps me to defocus and deeply absorb stuff without my conscious intellect trying act as if it's wholly responsible for my successes and failures.

Variety is essential. Get enough variety, and things tend to self-balance. It all comes out - eventually - more by feel than Vulcan logic.

When I set my little studio up, I decided that after initially installing software, etc., my studio PC would never go online again. Not only does it keep the machine safe, but it keeps me focused when I'm in there.

 

That has been a struggle for me lately. The first thing I do when going into my studio room is go on the net. I keep telling myself 10 more minutes and when it's over I steal another 10 minutes and so on, until hours has passed by

Sometimes I wish I don't have internet, but then I remember AudioZ and AudioSex
If you are bound by deadlines and doing work for others, time management is a must. Whatever is on the net is not going away anytime soon and there's always time to get back to it. I wish I can listen to myself

This would also be my answer.

Sometimes we can get frustrated and think "crap, I am always imagining/creating things with my mind but not putting it down into music". The proof on wether you've been actually learning vs "wasting time" is when you're on the spot to come up with something (in the studio, deadline for a project, etc).

That's when you realize "ah, I knew I could count on me!"... or maybe "shit, I've been looking at too much stuff online but got nothing out of it".

Well nobody said anything about gaming, only if you think about world of war craft and another online (money - time) taking games than please forget about creating music and doing production!

There are two sides to this and both have two types of outcome, depending on the person:

- People who spend time producing

• They keep "producing" the same crap over and over, mindlessly, as if it will magically take care of their weaknesses. The problem is that they don't even stop to think about what their weaknesses are.
• People who produce a lot but have awareness over what they are doing.

- People who spend time learning

• They read a lot, watch all the tutorials and have a sense of "I know this". When it comes to doing, they are clueless.
• People who actually relate what they read/watch to their previous knowledge (not info), building upon it. These people can make music anytime but if they don't have to, they tend to think too much and not doing it often (but they can do it).

When i don't have (good or enough) projects running i tend to read, surf, watch, collect on the www and i forget the time!
Having deadlines is a good thing...it may prevent from procrastination.

 

yep, me too.
but for me I need to turn the whole thing off sometimes and pick up my guitar. I mean, I do write a little on the puter, but its when im barefoot with a guitar that I feel creative

my guitar gently weeps too much while I surf the web lol
