I'm considering buying this and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it.
Is it easy to plug into a DAW (FLstudio)?
How do the keys feel? Are they piano-like?

 

I have bought another model with the fatar keys. The keys do have a very piano-like touch. They do not feel like upright piano, maybe some kind of concert grand piano key feel. They plug into a DAW like any other MIDI controller. The only thing mine lacks was more controllers to be really efficient lol.

 

Yes, I have it.

Pretty simple. You take a MIDI cable and plug one end to the controller and the other end into your MIDI in/interface.

Yes, they are piano-like, as in graded hammer action/weighted.
edit: although on the heavy/slow side.

Well Studiologic keys are currently my workhorses in weighted and semiweighted action department so I will share my opinion.

1. They're pretty simple to connect into any kind of DAW (tried Reaper and Sonar) running on Windows 7-8 (never tried 10 yet) once you got the right USB cable.
2. The action is mainly a matter of taste so I strongly suggest to try it before you will eventually decide to buy. I don't like it very much to be honest and I do prefer my old Roland piano anytime over it but I travel a lot and (see next point)...
3. They're much easier to handle compared to other keyboards, their construction is not super complicated and spare parts are much easier to find and cheaper compared to other brands so I think they have a good value for their price and they are a very good choice for anybody who travels a lot.

I use one like this:

USB cable AB.

If I need more keyboards (usually when I play the Hammond or a classic organ) I connect with the same cable the PC and the Prodipe 4i4o midi interface.



And the keyboards and the Prodipe using simple midi cables.

 

I own this and it is a good keyboard. Unfortunately it does not output the full midi velocity range 118-120 seems to be the limit. Obviously this can be compensated for in most software's but the whole point in a weighted board is how it plays. I now use Arturias 88 keylab which is a better device complete with aftertouch.

does the sl990 support the usb cable?
and wow, that arturias looks amazing. is it better constructed than the mpk88? as in no buzzing sounds or crazy noises from the keybed?

 

SL990 supports usb and so does Arturia. I suspect they both use the same Fatar keybed but the Arturia is better made with more features. And has a full velocity range.

 

Ah, the thing is I don't need all the faders or the drumpad.
Is there some sort of middle ground between the SL990 and Arturia?

 

Clarification: SL990 Pro has MIDI (out only), not USB.
