    Hi everyone,
I produce eletronic music (techno, tech-house, house...) and I try to learn by myself watching video and read tips and tricks. Problem is that I can't get a way to give my kick and bass the right power that I use to listen in different techno tracks.
I know that there are a lot of issues to get a big fat kick like layering it with a mid-kick and sub kick or even something like a click + mid kick + synth sub bass and add a side-chained bass, but I can't find the right way to get close to those kind of bass and kick drum you find for exemple in this release :

    or

    or

Maybe this powerfull sound of kick-bass is all about mastering ? Anyway if you can help me to reproduce those kind of kicks I would be the happiest man in this world.

    Sorry for my English.

well it sounds to me these kicks are streched in some kind of way,
but if it's layered the highs and lows have a big offset (so they don't trigger at the same time)
or or or they used the offset to introduce some phase issues on purpose...

I think one of these 3 options above could all sound a like.

Remember these songs are build around the rhytm, especially the kicks claps and hats.
if you solo these 3 it should still stand out like a song and not just parts of a song.

And remember, after 20+ min in production you really can't tell anymore, thanks to hearing fatigue and over-focusing

Ok going on here. Dark bass preset from aas chromaphone, short decay to really punch it. Standard clip was used to soft clip. Sampled on C and loaded into geist. Pitched down 1 octave and put through low pass filter and then eq boost at 60hz or so. Used geist to pitch it up and down to force the melody. The echo effect is the same sample loaded to a different pad, pitched up, distorted and feedback delay.

Kick drum is from geist factory library pitched down 1 octave with a high pass filter and some drive. Altered the amp envelope to give a slightly shorter decay and a lower longer release to the tail, used onboard envelope shaper (transient designer) to further shape the kick. Used the high pass to help it sit on the bass.

Everything shoved through klang mjuc slow kick drum preset, and then through uhe satin (went bit too ott needs backing off a wee bit but hey). Room reverb almost zero wet, AOM invisible limiter.

    hi-.
I dont know, if you WANT to build the kick by yourself.
But you can try Kick Synth from Sonic academy.
If you layer them with a nice vengeance kick you can get some good stuff.
For seperating Bassline and kick try sidechain, so that the bassline doesnt fall with the kick.

if you want to build all by your self and you want to learn, than pls ignore this post

    Greetings :)

Hi ! First of all, thanks for your fast and helpful answers !

@Kwissbeats , what do yo mean by "these kicks are streched in some kind of way", is that they are layered and compressed ? And is the offset the time between the punchy kick and the sub one ? ( I'm French and try to understand haha but sometimes words production vocablary may be difficult to understand...). Anyway, thanks for your advices and yes I know that listen at a low volume and take break could be a great issue for composing.

@worldsbest, Thanks for your recommandations I'm going to dl it and watch it tonight haha I heard a lot of good things about sonic academy tutorials and I even watch some of them but never heard about this one ! For the moment I almost do your technic by choosing a mid-high punchy kick and another low-passed filter kick then compress with side chain and add Eq's but the problem us that when I come to add a bass line, my layered kick seems to lose in power... Even if I side chain it I get more power put the quality of the mix doesn't feel good... However, I sometimes get that powerfull kick but I have to find an easier way than spend a lot of time on a kick that will not work at the end of the composition... And I'm glad that you like these kind of tracks haha if you want to dig out, I've got a youtube channel with a lot of playlist I made with techno and house music, don't hesitate to ask :)

@focusrite, what a punchy kick you have there... I'm not sure if I have the geist library, but I will experiment your trick tonight haha ! Thanks for your time and help !

@Swatch, I will try to dl it, but i already have kick form nicky romero and I sometime layer one of them with another sample from banks in audio, I think it is a the same way.. Thanks !

Another question about the making of the kick before try your different tips, what kind of pluggin you use ? I'm going to download U-he Satin and already have fab filter for eq and i use the logic pro X compressor or sometime the C1
