There are so many different VSTi and sample libraries to lay down bass tracks, thought I would get opinions and suggestions on what you think is the best sounding for rock, metal. blues genres.

    @ Slider,

Beside all the great suggestions provided above, you could also check the following (if not already done, of course !) :

    'Prominy SR5 Rock Bass'

P.S: Don't forget to also use (if not already done !) either the FX Section provided within a specific Library, or any VST Plugins that could change the sound of the (raw) Bass sound(s) you're using...

Trilian is nice but i tend to go towards the MPC bass for Kontakt or i use the low end theory.

Only slightly related, but I'm putting my quick and dirty bass method out there for normal guitarists ..

Electric 6-string > SoundShifter Pitch Mono (Waves) > Amplitube

Without hesitation, Trilian. As someone suggested, it takes some getting used to. However, in a pinch, I'll use both the Jaco Iconic Bass and the Core Bass Cherry Slapped by Orange Tree. As always, it depends on your music genre, and of course, your playing abilities to make these instruments sound somewhat realistic. It's becoming harder and harder (at least for me these days) to get a bunch of musicians together to create some "live" sounds.

Depends on the style of music you want to make.
Trillian has a great double bass, Scarbee MM is awesome for some 70's Chic basslines (so it's the Jay version, it has more punch than the MM).
Also heard the Scarbee Rickenbacker and it is fabulous!

A friend of mine used some Orange Tree guitars and i loved them, never had the chance to try their bass libraries. Any characteristics worth mentioning? Thanks!

Well, what I like about their basses are the 'clean' sound (at least to my ears). Here, check out these short samples of a quick bass line I threw together using Iconic Basses & The Core Bass Cherry Slapped.
