Hi Folks,

Wondered if anyone could help cos it is driving me nuts! I'm using Cubase 8. Okay I selected the track i wanted sidechain on (reverse crash - Halion 5 instrument track). Activated Pro C clicking expert then ext, finally clicked the Activate Sidechain button. Then went to my Kick audio track which i will be using as the send but when I click on sends the only outs listed are stereo out left and right. The FF Sidechain out isnt there!!!

Wtf is going on? Thought sidechain was meant to be easy in C8. Might have to go down the quadra channel route if I cant get a fix.

Thanks Jay but I already googled that and have already seen it and it didn't help. When he activates sidechain in his plugin it seems to create a send. When I activate a sidechain it doesn't create a send. So when I go to sends in my kick track all i see is stereo out (l&r). Any reason why this would happen? It's not just Pro C, it is the same result even when using Cubase's compressor.

Someone says to put the PRO-C on a empty AUDIO track, then move that instance of PRO-C on your INSTRUMENT track.

 

You do have the Pro version of Cubase 8? The Elements version does not support sidechaining, unfortunately.

 

Yeah, got a legit Pro 8. Jay, if i put Pro C on an empty track it will have nothing to use for ducking. Maybe i have misunderstood you. The problem is the lack of Sidechain output in the sends. If this was there it would be gravy.

You ARE joking, right!? I have put a thread in on the Steiny forum though, no replies yet. For obvious reasons I can't contact FabFilter. I might grab Pro C2 and see if that makes a difference. If I can't anywhere then its back to Quadra channels which is nuts!

 

Are you picking/loading the Pro-C VST from within your "Dynamics" subfolder (and not from the "FabFilter" subfolder)? I know I had this issue with Cubase 5 (when I loaded from the FabFilter subfolder), and Pro-C wouldn't even allow me to see the SC activation button.

 

Yeah, the VST3 from Dynamics. It's all very strange. Is there a setting I need to activate in Cubase somewhere are other which allows extra outputs?

 

You load the compressor (on the reverse crash) and enable the SC (on the top) and set sidechain to external (ext.) in the compressor. Then send/aux on the channel (you want to become the controller) to the compressor SC input at around 0dB out.
If the latter is not showing I think something is quite wrong.

 

This is entirely my point Baxter, the send isnt showing in the controlling track. Only stereo out (l&r) are showing. I am going to download Pro C2 and see if that makes a difference.

 

Ok, so I got a response from someone on the Steiny forum. They were having the exact same problem with Izotope Alloy. Seems that the VST2 version was being loaded by default. He deleted the VST2 and his sidechain problem was solved. Sounds very promising. However, I am sure I tried sidechaining with C8's native compressor and also got the same problem as Pro C is giving me. Wont get on my PC til late tonight but am going to install Pro C2 first to see if that works. Failing that I will dump all of Fabfilter's VST2 files and see if that works. There's a chink of light now, keeping my fingers crossed!

 

Well, the saga may be at an end. I have my laptop with me at work which has Cubase 6 on it. Acquired Pro C2 and attempted sidechain and it worked exactly as it should. Just need to try on my studio PC later tonight but my woes (of sidechain at least!) may be gone!

UPDATE: Yee-feckin-haa. I am now in sidechain bliss. Pro C 2 solved the problem, however, I do believe if I had dumped the VST2 versions of Pro C then that would have worked too. But, am glad it all led me to Pro C 2, better visually than earlier version with it's waveform display.
