so made some compositional progress on the track. It's about 90% complete. Really liking the mellow vibe. Not 100% sure yet on the mallet drum solo during the breakdown, but will work it out eventually... gotta do a few more things before it's 'complete'.

This was a great excercise though on making a kickless track. I realised that since there would be no kick, I was able to make the attack time of the bass more abrupt and hitting pretty much at 0, as opposed to increasing the attack time of the bass very little so it doesn't phase out with the kick.

So yes, it's one of those kickless tracks but I really love it's chill and tropical island vibe

This time it sounds much complete! Like it. Like bassline but it sounds little repetitive. Try make some variation to it before last drop at 3.07.

 

For the Kick (if you eventually add one - tough it sounds nice like that)
-Sidechain the the Kick to Bass Compressor (short attack and release)
-Make sure the Kick and Bass arent in the same frequency (kHz) range and use EQ on both track to make place for the other track
-Use "Center" plug-in from Waves (to make sure the Low end is mono and High end is stereo)
Basic Start to help Kick and Bass to not compete.

It's not a Pro advice, but i read a few tutorials ... and still experiment
