    Yes. For MP3 the best quality is always 320kbps bitrate. The rest is up to the codec.

    thanks Xupito, GoldWave uses Lame 3.99... I think it is the latest one.
    My concern was if it is better VBR best quality then CBR... math suggest me that CBR is best :)
    and Stereo is better then joint stereo.

    320 kbps constantly is better than up to 320 kbps.

    Ah sorry man... Little bit late..
    But what i mean is those vertical lines that are in the waveform view, IMHO its a littlebit clutter. So if someone know if its even possible to get rit of them? You make my day!

    Overall i like this piece of software (and you got many of them) specially how you can make it look and wich buttons you want to see. But those vertical lines those lines.. :no::snuffy:

    Side rant but somewhat relevant:

    Yes, 320kps CBR is the highest quality, but I'll always recommend using VBR, because:

    complex sections -> ~320kps
    silent and quiet sections ~320kps

    It's inefficient, and easy to compress sections will result in higher perceptual quality than complex sections.

    (V0 also has more bandwidth than 320kps CBR by default in LAME)

    thanks a lot junh1024,
    so this setting should be the best one to achieve a high quality mp3 file from a 44.1khz .wav source?

    mp3.PNG
    vbr = 0
    bitrate = 32000
    channels = Stereo (not joint Stereo)

    I always used 320kbps CBR, as VBR uses much more aggressive band-pass filter. With 320kbps CBR and joint stereo, the quality was very close to 44/16 lossless. Needless to say, this applied for Lame 3.67 which used no bandpass by default. Newer Lames 3.97+ doesn't support bypassed filtering and are bound to screw up parts of the spectrum as they please.

    lame_enc.dll 3.67 in Goldwave 5.25 with above settings produced best sounding MP3s for me :wink:

    thanks for information Andrew, very interesting point.
    I thought latest lame version was the best choice, actually I'm with lame 3.99.5.
    I'll give it a try...thanks again

    You can't download lame this old, unfortunately, the build is from year 2000. However if you find it useful, I can send you the lame_enc.dll. There was "-f" parameter which disabled frequency filter, but it has deprecated since 3.97. Also new version of Goldwave doesn't work with DLL this old. You'd have to use older version. :yes:

    Thanks a lot Andrew,
    probably a bit too difficult for my knowledge of software, I'll keep using 3.99 and current goldwave...
    right now CBR result is not bad at all, I just was trying to understand if it was possible to increase quality without too much effort :D
    have a good Saturday!

    thanks ArticStorm
    do you mean to use CBR and keep VBR off?
    this is what I usually do but seems that VBR at best quality for some mysterious reason could achieve better results.

    of course CBR, when you turn of VBR it automatical goes into CBR.

    VBR never achieves better results because its less in quality as CBR, when you set it on 320!
    it tried to save space on parts of the track where there not much frequencies (at the end and the beginning of tracks or in the breakdown) and in the end you have an average of 320, CBR has everywhere 320, so you have no artifacts at the beginning, you can hear them sometimes, when your ears are trained)

    do you got the LAME enocoder downloaded for goldwave6? because for me it failed.

    Hi Artic,
    thanks for info.
    I'm using Goldwave 32bit, latest is the 5.7 version, downloaded on goldwave website.
    I was lucky the keygen from BLiZZARD (GoldWave.v6.14.Incl.Keygen) found on AudioZ works fine on this too :D
    I downloaded the latest available lame version 3.99.5, when you try to save to mp3 goldwave ask you for lame_enc.dll location, that's it.
    it works really good, then I use EncSpot PRO to check Mp3 details, this little piece of software is really a jewel and it is free but discontinued, hard to find but now I cant live without.
    if you need anything let me know I can upload here EncSpot PRO and latest Lame ;) both are no more then 2MB archive
    have a good sunday.
