Depressingly, I'm still using SampleTank 2 (also, Sonik Synth 2, Miroslav Philharmonik and SampleTron). I have the option to get the free version of ST 3 on my account, but I have a real love for the old-school SampleTank instruments, even if I have to run it in a 32 Lives shell to use it in a 64-bit DAW. First VI I ever bought.

 

You did know that by using Sampletank 3 you can import the entire libraries you mentioned ?

 

I think you can also import with the less expensive Sampletank 3 SE? But definitely check before you go that way to see if I'm right.

Hey can someone verify that these actually work. I did the City Piano long ago and it worked fine then for people, but they've changed ST3 since and I'm not sure if dropping the instrument and the pack into the right folders and updating works correctly now. I tried experimenting with moving my ST3 folder and couldn't get them to work. So I'm worried that it might be an absolute directory path and not a relative path. It would be embarrassing to release instruments that don't work! Though not the first mistake in my life.

 

Yes, and like I said, I can get the free version on my account … still like SampleTank 2 better. I guess that was my original point (that I failed to make). Hell, I could import all my ST VI libraries into SampleTank and just have one unified VI and I still use the Sonik Synth 2 (which is pretty much identical to SampleTank's), SampleTron and Philharmonik interfaces anyway. Weird, I know. In my defense, I think SampleTank 3 kind of ruined the simplicity of the previous versions. I'm definitely not a fan of the GUI (once again, weird: the ST 2 GUI is adjustable but awful).

 

Yeah I dunno. Not really a big ST3 fan myself. I swear the Miroslav stuff now sounds worse that before.
Before it was kind of retro charm. Now it is just a poor modern rompler thing with mediocre sounds largely.

I'll definitely check it out! I've used ST 2 and Miroslav on a few scores -- they were among the first VIs I ever bought. I know that ST 3 somehow alters your SampleTank instruments when you import them, which is another reason I've just stuck with 2.5. For real critical stuff these days, I just use Kontakt libraries, but I always loved the Miroslav collection for basic orchestral stuff, and I always seem to have something in one of my SampleTank expanded libraries that works on a piece of music, no matter what else I've got.

 

Everything I've done for Sampletank I've already done for kontakt and it sounds better on kontakt.
