Funny, i reduced my hair to an half centimeter only two weeks ago too  There was something like a wig on the floor.

About Paradise Lost, it is one of my fav bands ever.
Because they stick to my mind state...sadly.
"Icon" is my fav old album from them.
And my fav song is on Draconian Times :

It is a song with Charles Manson sentences, and probably their best concept song. Nobody would have written this song like them. Amazing band.

And about the way to enter guitars in the box, i simply use Focusrite Scarlett Hi-Z input, direct from guitar.

But for sure, you need a drive in front of any virtual amp for that tight crunch sound.
For this purpose, i use TSE 808 and Ignite Amps TSB-1. Of course, driving guitar sound outside of the box will help entering a more "compact" sound, but with today soundcards, it is not so important to me.
May be it is because i use EMG active pickups, too  Passive pickups are more sensible to Hi-Z impedance, and so a DI can help.

Brother! That's one of my top 10 songs ever. You have any of your music I could listen to?

Speaking of Paradise Lost... I just stumbled upon this:

ok, I misunderstood that completely...I thought it was your own production. I quite understand the melancholic kinda feel that you are able to lay down in rock/metal songs better than any other genre.
It seems perfectly cut out for this. The minor chord progressions and power chords do that, basically. Putting the emphasis on it in choosing the additional instrumentation is only following a natural flow if you'd ask me. Here's an example of what I do with my music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3o8PBh0wXpA

Nice! What was your involvement there? Are you in the band or did you produce it? (or both?)

Thanks, The Demon (well I knew that at a certain part of my life I HAD to say that! :wow: )
Apart of jokes, thank you very much for your comment; I play keyboards and I care about drum programming, along with the drummer who actually plays on a virtual drum (he's not living close to me, so it's an internet related project) and arrangements.
Your music is very interesting, even if I'm not that into death metal.

Best of luck, my friend...and if you want, you can follow us on Soundcloud, we are going to release our first album within 5-6 months, I hope :).

    Take care

    Hello!!

I'm not into Metal per se, but I like heavy and dark stuff.

I love experimental outfits such as Godflesh (as OP has already mentioned).

Nailbomb are one of my favorite Metal bands, But I'm also a big lover of 80's hardcore. :)

I currently play in a Hardcore Punk Band - UK82 sound. It's along the lines of The Exploited and G.B.H.

However, I'm really into that old Industrial sound. So I'm attempting to make some from my bedroom. :)

    But it's all good!

Oh man.. that made my day :lmao:

"Icon" is so good that even today (or perhaps, today more than ever) it's almost hard to believe what a masterpiece is. I was into classic british/nordic metal when I first heard it, so it was even a greater shock for me.

I've listened it so many times that it's one of my reference albums. But not for doing music (I'm a beginner) but for checking my everyday state of mind.

    What's your band's name?
I play in a Thrash metal/crossover group called "Irradiation"

TSE 808 is great, who doesnt use this? also, Lepou and some good impulses, and some EQ works good too!

Huge metalhead here! As far as guitar tones go, just acquired an Axe FX II and let me say, that piece of gear is truly lifechanging. Definitely worth saving for especially if you can find a used one on ebay or something!

I am a Metal head, I started making music on computer because of Metal. Back in the day (early 2000s) there weren't VSTis or kontakt, either you had a real guitar with an amp or you had samples. I was into the Metal MOD scene (tracker music). Most of the people in the scene were either from Finland or Sweden with a few from USA, UK and France etc. I learned a lot there, not just about music but the evolving internet culture as well (things like Tubgirl and Goatse).

Nowadays I make all kind of music as a professional, I love Rock and Metal both. I don't play the guitar but use sample libraries to make music.

Wow, just like me! Except for the last part that nowadays you make music :_( .

The MOD scene, was great. I only made one complete song with FastTracker II (.xm module) and one of the reasons was that I never found metal guitar samples, although I listened a few song modules with guitar phrases recorded.

Then I had a wonderful and revolutionary idea. Sampling my best friend's guitar and convert it to a Module instrument. So I went to his house with my whole computer (desktop tower computer). It was like this:
    - All ready. Let's start!!
    - Ok, but how can you record the amplifier sound without a microphone?
    - No problem! The amp is only a speaker. I'll record from your distortion pedal out to my computer in with this simple jack to jack wire! (victorious smile in my face)
    - No, man, the amp is not only a speaker.
    - Bullshit. Who is the technical ace? came on, let's start.:disco:

    After recording:
    - This sounds like shit.
    - I told you Xupito.
    My face-> :suicide::facepalm:

Many years later I discovered Prominy LPC Kontakt by accident, and I had a boner.

Haha! I used Modplug Tracker (.it). It was truly the most advance tracker of its time. Too bad you weren't introduced to the #Metalscene, we had all kinds of guitar packs (separate for left and right channel). The articulations included Palm Mute, Single notes, power chords. There were bass and drum kits as well. Most such packs were created by Axeslash and Cadavar. We avoid the machine-gun effect by using the "offset" command, created fake vibrato and did fake double tracking by introducing a little delay to one of the channels. It was really fun.

Now we have amazing packages like Shreddage, Orange Tree and Musiclab instruments and its easy to create realistic performances, not to mention the advent of amp simulators.
