    @Thankful:
    I don`t care about sympathy... I am just asking if someone is aware of a cheap system to avoid the tar/nicotine patches on the walls.

    @r4e:
    Yes, that "downdraft thing" could be a good solution, but I suspect it to be very expensive ?!?

    @superliquidsunshine:
    my sincere condolences

    @krameri:
    thanks for the info You shared... I was not aware that tar was conductable :thumbsup:
    (that could be the secret behind the sound of some old Les Pauls and Strats from the `60 :invision: tomorrow I`ll hang a set of PAF pickups on the ceiling, where the patches was very visible, and see in a year or two if the sound improoved :hahaha: )

    @JoeR.:
    please, avoid this thread if You find it stupid.

    @To all the partecipants:
    Please stick to the topic: "someone aware of a cheap system to avoid the tar/nicotine patches on the walls/gear"
    don`t turn this into a anti smoking campaign, or into a vaping promotion, or into a health issue.
    I smoke pipes, I have no intention to quit, I have no intention to go outside for a smoke since a pipe lasts about 2 hours, and I don`t want to tell my friends that they are not allowed to smoke inside

    a cool pic I came across :rofl:

    Just smoke in your studio! That´s the best advise I can give you!

    Smoking is great for your health, It´s really cheap and no one else will be afected by it!

    I´ve smoked for many years! I love it, and I can strongly recomment it!

  5. Thank you Rhodes for your condolences. Apolgies for the wordy highjack, I just feel passionate about the subject, and it seems like these days that any chance I get to use my finger tips is one I take advantage of. I probably need to be putting myself in check, mate.

    just put your porta-studio in a partial vacuum, 20- 24 pascal should be sufficient.
    with m3 airflow corresponding to the size of the room

    I did :chilling:

    just let nobody blow out smoke into the microphone and then you should be fine

    Have you tried looking into some sort of wall treatments? I can't recommend any products because honestly I haven't heard of such a thing. But I have never thought to look. I'll just about bet that their is some such product out there though. Some sort of special paint or gloss? Something that either repels or makes it easy to wipe off the smoke tar? Maybe research that avenue. Or not. Either way, best of luck to you.

    A cheap downdraft system costs about 700-1000€. The designer downdraft extractor is at 5000 or 6000€ but also availabel as used on ebay for about 2000-3000€. So yes, it's expensive but it looks damn nice.

    @superliquidsunshine:
    no problem mate, no need to apologize; I love to read Your posts... my remark was only to try to stop the thread going in the "wrong" direction. :unsure:

    @r4e:
    ufff... that is indeed too much money... the "cheap downdraft" equals a few decades of painting. :no:

    @BChrist:
    Yes, washable paint seems the best solution so far :thumbsup:

    I smoke outside the main "A" room, I have another room with cheap PC, speakers and so and it s... Hellfire there!
    Indians... smoke signals... everything goes there.
    Musicians smoke a lot when recording.
    Circuits don t like it. Buyers are able to smell a mic... Non smoking studios gear is evaluated more in case of selling.
    just my opinion and experience
