1. Having an issue with brand new MacBookPro 11,5 - couldn't get it back to Mavericks at all, so stuck with Yosemite, it seems... couldn't even get it back to OSX 10.10.2, bummer. Main reason, is to get LP9 and LPX to run smooth and stable, primarily. Any suggestions here?

2. Logic Pro v9.1.8 crashes in x32 bit, right after it opens and you select a track to start, in an empty project - any track, audio, instrument, etc. So, tried un-checked "Open in 32 bit mode" and run it in x64 bit mode, it opens, pulls up a track... but unable to bounce any tracks, it crashes. Thinking it's really only related to OSX 10.10.5, as i know most are running LP9 in 10.10.2, 10.10.3, etc... Any ideas?

3. Logic Pro X v10.2.0, v10.1.1, v10.0.7 - none will re-index apple loops for more than a second, even after downloading new loops, specifically (thru "Download Additional Content" link in Preferences). LP9 seems to see it's set of loops and shows them, listed in the loop side bar. LPX will not show any... restart, repair permissions, also googled and tried enabling full "Read & Write" permissions on /Apple Loops and /Apple Loops Index, and yes, also deleted the "Search index....txt files, emptied trash, restarted, repaired permissions, etc. A call to Apple Genius suggested creating a new User account - which i found quite silly, because the machine only had one Admin account...

3.a. - so is a new user account really necessary to fix Apple Loops issue? lol, wow, smh. although, they do seem to be working for the most part, at the moment now :shrug: - any ideas on getting this to work in direct admin account, instead of additional user accounts?

3.b. - is anyone else experiencing issues with Apple Loops in OSX Yosemite 10.10.5? or any previous Yosemite version, and if so - what were your solutions?

Get rid of LP 9 and LPX (use AppDelete app) then install only LPX. It works flawlessly on Yosemite. If doesn't work, maybe you messed up badly your OS when tryin gto go back to various OS versions - try to do a clean Yosemite reinstall. Also, if I recall correctly, Yosemite is not meant to support LP 9.

 

Thank you for your reply! Yosemite was fresh installed, and is fine. There is nothing wrong the os, at all. I only tried booting the machine with older OSX versions, from a booty drive, so nothing was changed about the OSX by Apple.

LP9 is absolutely needed, as LPX doesn't have certain features from LP9, anymore. Also, much prefer to work on sessions in LP9, rather than LPX. the main goal is certainly to keep LP9, and hopefully running as smooth as possible!

So desperate to keep LP9 running, may consider using vmware or something to run virtual machines of older OSX, if necessary... gahhh! lol

 

I've mentioned this previously on this forum, but when I installed Yosemite, beforehand I first made a partition (from within Mountain Lion) so that I could dual-booth OS 10.8 and 10.10 – partly because I wanted to still be able to use Logic 9.1.8 (and ProTools 10.3.whatever) and other applications which might not translate/transition to Yosemite. (I have a second drive for data, whicch the two OS versions can share, so I'm not storing project-specific data on a system disk.) stevitch, thank you. although i'm pretty familiar with converting "Core Storage" partitions back to +HFD volumes now, there was an extra line or two in that article, that was helpful.

Question #1 is almost a dumb question from me, at this point - because Apple has completely moved forward and does not support Mavericks (or even older versions of Yosemite) on their latest line of mac models. Which is not surprising, as they have been doing this for years now, as their model line-up continues to progress forward. This question was kind of a long-lost-hope that there might possibly be a glimmer of hope, left. Apparently... not. I've been searching elsewhere, as well.

The main reason for this whole post, however is Questions #2 + #3. Has anyone had any issues and, hopefully solutions, with LP9 + LPX in OS X 10.10.5 with x32 bit LP9 and Apple Loops in LPX ?!?

Any help or insight on Q 2 + 3 would be remarkable, thanks!

I'm finding multiple new mac machines of 2015 are having this problem. putting logic pro 9 into x64 bit mode allows to actually open past the "new project" window, although still has crashing issues with bouncing tracks and certain edit functions.

agh! lol. anyone?

 

From Apple forums: Currently, as of April 4th 2015, the combination of Logic Pro 9 and Yosemite (10.10.x) is NOT recommended as many people are reporting performance/stability related issues. If you have already upgraded to Yosemite, use your backups and 'roll back' to an earlier OS X such as Mavericks though some users still report issues with LP9 under any later OS X version than Mountain Lion.

 

yes, you've mentioned that already. LP9 has been working fine in Yosemite up to OS X v10.10.3 .... however, these newer 2015 models will not allow a previous OS X earlier than 10.10.4.

Guessing it must really be the end of the line, for LP9? Such a bummer. LP9 still has a following of loyal producers that use such features, that are no longer available in LPX

What features are you talking about then exactly. I can't find one thing I used in LP9 that isn't included in LPX... really curious

 

There is a workaround in LPX for pretty much anything in LP9 - or actually a straight-around as most of the environment tricks in LP9 are now accessible from various menus in LPX. I think you should spend some serious time in learning properly LPX - especially if you want to produce music in the next 5+ years - as with Apple there is a real chance not to be able to run LP9 at all on the upcoming OSX's & newer machines. Or (and I am serious) - you can nowdays purchase a relatively cheap old Mac Pro so you can run Lion + LP9.

 

thanks for the replies, everyone. But the point is... there are plenty of people who prefer to use LP9, because it's what they have been using for YEARS. the workflow is different in LPX, and as far as i know (i myself, am not a logic user), there are certain features that are not available in LPX, that were in LP9. Similar to the difference between FCPX and FCP7. There are production houses out here that can't use FCPX at all, and still continue to use FCP7 or have switched completely to Premiere or Media Composer on mac.

@kingchubby, additional partitions are useless, when you can't boot anything older than OS X 10.10.4 - which is where the problems with LP9 currently reside, in the newer mac machines.

the only other option i can think of, is to try vmware fusion and run an older OS X as a virtual machine with LP9.
