    Disto Released

Finally it has been released (it was presented in July: thanks to TheDingus)

Disto includes three units in a rack (two compressors and a stereo unit for warmth, saturation and transformers) and a Mid/Side encoding/decoding matrix.

Disto can be used as mono, linked stereo (to keep a perfect stereo alignment from the source), dual stereo (unit working separately on left and right channels) and Mid/Side. In Mid/Side mode one unit processes the Mid component of the signal and the other one processes the Side component, with independent control, for a deeper stereo processing.

    Features
    • Several compression modes.
    • Knee compression.
    • Several saturation modes.
    • Warmth control. A special dynamic filter attenuates brightness for a “tape” style warming effect.
    • Hottitude control. Set headroom and saturation independently from dynamic control.
    • Output transformer option. A special saturation on low frequency range.
    • Mid/Side matrix, with independent controls for Mid and Side.
    • Original/Out of Order modes.

Disto for Windows and Mac (VST/AU, AAX in development) is available for the introductory price of $29.99 USD (regular $39.99 USD).

Maybe they think it is not necessary if the Introductory price is 29.99$ (~ €26)... Who knows?

    Good point

Little surprised nobody is talking about this, it's distressor+fatso after all, taught maybe absence of proper demo is the reason

I think this plugin (like the hardware) is finicky, first 10 minutes of using it I either had overdriven distortion or no compression.
I ended up reading the manual for the real hardware, watching videos, and searching to forums to better understand how it works.
The lack of presets and the lack of a manual from SKnote sucks.

When I learned how it works, the plugin sounds good. however a while back I tried the Sly-Fi Deflector, and I find that more forgivng, and when it does distort, to be more musical. But for a third of the price, this plugin is great.

I was excited for this to be released because now I have emulations of all the big named compressors

Well, on gslutz, its been talked about for awhile. I know one of the beta testers and he is going bananas about it. It will be a different beast. How the MJUC can be with vocals, i believe that with the Distro, it will become a new fav of mine. Hands down.

A Disto (brief) review here :drummer::chilling:

  11. as a lucky owner of the real ones, i can tell that this plug it's a great deal for digital application... maybe the UAD version it's a "perfect" replica of the distressor itself and blablabla... but men, this one has the "big cojones"! combining the two units was a great idea as you can get faster results at your fingertips... in a studio environment you need a patchbay and a lot of patience to achieve what the plug can give you in a couple of minutes... hats off to the dev!

  13. no matter how many compressors you have... there's always room for the distressor! :like:

seriously speakin'... as the original unit, it's a kind of "unique" plugin. Except for the UAD, there's not other good alternatives to this one. I try everything in years and all the "emulations" sound far away from the distressor/fatso... for that price, it's a must-have

Started a petition awhile ago for UAD to model the Distressor. Had more negative responses than positive. I dont understand how people could actually reply back to me & say " I didn't sign your petition because I think it would be a bad edition to the UAD platform"... Seriously!!!? Like its going to cost you the consumer anything to go out and model the plugin!!!? Any rate, Quintos Disto is the best thing we have so far. Hopefully this might spark up a new interest for people to actually sign my petition. Link to my petition towards the bottom of this post... Oh BTW Quinto is a nice dude. Bought Disto on day one.

    Good review here:

I've bought this thing few days ago (I've owned all Quinto plugins also back in a days, I'm quiet a fan of his plugins) and I must say this is a real beast. Very musical adding loads of different colors and tones. We can use it on almost every kind of material.
I don't have the hardware units, I 've already work with some fasto/distressor unit before.
But who cares, this new Sknote Disto is the deal for me.

I took some time and compared Disto with the real hardware (both EL7 and 2 EL8) i own in my studio using a Lavry converter as I/O insert.
We're REALLY close. Controls are slightly different, there's no way on the Distressor part to enable both HP and Dist modes or HP and band selectors on the detector, but over all it's a great plug, copying the same settings the sonic results are 95% similar.
I like the variable knob on FATSO for warmth instead of fixed steps.
I'll write Quinto asking him to implement the link cable trick on the distressor part.
Go get it, guys. it worths every cent.
