How does it works? What's the strongest point of the protection itself?
I'm not a coder or whatever, I'm just nosy about the technical stuff about it.

I know... plenty of infos are available online, but I'm lookin' for a different point of view.

Someone want to share his own experience with that berlin wall look-a-like?

im not sure discussing the methods used to try and crack it is a great idea...

you're maybe from iLok looking to strengthen its protection even more?

    who knows...

    Cant be sure nowadays...

There was a thread a month or so back that went into all of this, but someone (probably someone that just got ousted) felt the need to wipe it. Maybe the climate is different here now, but can't be sure yet.

If iLok2 dongle can be cracked.
Then USB-eLicenser can be cracked too.

if I've broke the rules just remove the post and pretend that nothing happened...
i'm a noobie 'round here, and after reading of the lastest events, i think that this lack of confidence it's well justified

my intentions was not to talkin' about crackin' or whatever... i was only curious about a different explanation, less mumbo jumbo thant the regulars, from some tech-heads 'round here...

by the way, i'm not here to start another war...

    Hey STiMPAK ,

you are just popping up new here? First time AS & never heard about the infamous iLok2 thread before?
Right, does come along pretentious as you like to say. There is nothing wrong with discussing cracking/warez in here (as you obviously know). Wasn`t up to be rude. Just a little tense around here lately and the people who potentially answer your question just won`t do it. Can`t help it: have the feeling you were here before.
    However, no offense.

I'm not here to talkin' about the crack part, even if it's nothing wrong about it...
By the way, nema problema man! For what i can see, the forum has to dial a lot of stress during these times

Maybe the problem stems from the fact that the mods (or a particular mod, perhaps) never really addressed the issue properly from the outset, instead just stealthily removing the thread, "nothing to see here, move along".

It probably would have been much more productive to just redact the particularly sensitive bits of the thread, give an explanation for the action, and then lock the thread. Then everyone would know what was going on, what's taboo, and why.

i will give you reasonable answer since you are curious : no one will discuss with you the method if they have progress in beating iLok2
cause revealing flaws of iLok2 is bad idea and will make people who work on it work harder twice, but short answer is since you have no background in Coding or reversing , iLok2 has a massive protection scheme & going into details will give you no benefits for you or for the one who's giving you the iNFO , so talking about it is even dangerous if you know what happened with iLok1

I've heard some of their code is decrypted in the kernel stage, lot's of code obfuscation, encrypted wrappers , encrypted layers, time-related callbacks.

I will presume that there has to be plenty of licenser sticks, legally acquired licenses, and tons of experience to tackle this baby.

Then when they do, and cracked the first one you can't just run on-line and share it with everyone, PACE will implement a new generation of sticks even harder to crack. I bet they have a 'when that happens' plan in the back of their minds.

Below I'll let my imagination go wild, Please don't take this as true but consider it as an different point of view

IF I had insane cracking powers, with a group of very experienced people who also got insane cracking powers or what not ,
I would over-think it a million times if we found the golden egg of Columbus.
If you think you got it nailed you'll need more then 2 years to see if your not overlooking something.

and halfway in the process there also need to be done a lot of programming (with or without emulation),
    witch isn't necessary a skill of a cracker/reverser

and don't forget about testing/debugging, you have to consider the effect that a Ilok2 release would have....

If it's confirmed to work, but 98% can't enjoy it people are going to cry their eyeballs out, pull their hair
imagine how many keyboards and mice are going to suffer from this....

aside from that, People will go crazy anyway , Gearslutz will explode, kvr will still sit there and do nothing
and rob papen is going to make some spicy remark about us 'idiots':hahaha:

@Kwissbeats If teams succeed in cracking iLok, that'd be the happiest day for the music industry and musicians. This would follow PACE going bankrupt for sure (so there won't be any need for class action lawsuit), and devs choosing different ways to secure their products. No more faulty dongles, no license transfer fee, no hetfy manipulation fees or shipping for $99.
And no more iLok in general.

I can see Rob buying the winning team a bottle of champagne, and throwing a party for all of us

If it was cracked im sure there would be time put into unlocking all the current software that is linked to it before they even thought of releasing it. Due to the fact as said above i'm sure pace have a back up plan for this happening. You cant blame them really.

I actually dont mind dongles as such. its just a pain if you have to have more than one. And as i have a elicenser and ilok thats already two usb ports used let alone the resources.
