Overview:
The Lyre is a ancient Greek Harp dating back to ancient Mesopotamia (2500BC). The earliest depiction of the a seven string Lyre was found in a sarcophagus in Crete (1400BC). The classical Lyre has a soundbox/resonator and extending from this are two raised arms connected with a cross bar. The crossbar has strings attached to it – essentially making it a primitive harp.



We deep-sampled the Lyre in a variety of finger positions, which each has a different attack and percussive quality, including Finger, Nail, Muted and Short Tremolo. The finger is more warm and soft – where as the nail and muted articulations are more pointy, percussive and defined. We also recorded 3 types of harmonics, slides, under bridge and bowed Lyre. In addition the Lyre also contains Glissandi FX, Bowed FX and Sound FX.

The Lyre was recorded with four microphone positions, including contact mics, inside close mics, semi-close and room mics. The end-result is a staggering +9.300 samples and the most comprehensive Ancient Lyre ever sampled. We also added our new micro-tuner, so you can get traditional middle-eastern tunings for Lyre.

Our CHAOS engine has also been added to multiply the textures and possibilities this library has to offer. We hope you enjoy using this library as much as we enjoyed making for you.



4 Finger Styles
The 8Dio Lyre offers you four different playing/finger styles. We deep-sampled the Lyre with both Picked Finger, Finger Nails, Muted Strings and Short Tremolo Glissandi. The different playing/finger styles each brings out a different character in the instrument from the soft and warm thumbs to the more trebly sound of finger tips and the more pointy sound of guitar picks. The idea is to give you a wealth of options, so depending on what type of attack and sustain your music requires – you have all the sound options available.

Assorted Articulations
The 8Dio Lyre contains a rich section of assorted articulations, 1st harmonics, 2nd harmonics and 3 harmonics sampled separately. In addition it contains slides, under bridge picks and bowed lyre. We also created a large assortment of Lyre effects, including Glissandi (Harp Glissando) style effects, Bowed FX and more traditional Sound Effects on the Lyre.

Micro-tunings & Options
The 8Dio Lyre offers a variety of ethnic micro-tunings, which transforms the instrument in several ways. We added the most common microtunings for Lyre, which includes: Rast, Saba, Bayati, Hijaz, Huzam, Sikah and Suznak. In addition we also created an Ensemble function, so you can have up to three Lyre’s playing at the same time. We also added our new Flow-Note system, so you can have the program play repeated notes for fast performances.



Microphone Positions
The Lyre also comes with four different microphone options, including Contact Mic, Close-Internal, Semi Close and Room Microphones. The contact microphones gives a unique perspective into the resonating body of the instrument – where as the close gives you an upfront sound captured right outside the body of the instrument. The semi-close and room microphones are more ambient. So in essence you can dial in the exact microphone perspective needed for your composition.

Chaos FX
The Lyre is also supported by our latest Chaos FX engine, which allows you to virtually do anything you desire to the Lyre. Whether its redesigning the layout by key-control, create a step-based filter sequencer, precision dial EQ, bit-crush or distort, stereo-delay or mess around with dual convolution reverbs. We even added our Chaos system, so you can randomize entire FX with a single mouse click.
