So I just found out about Sample Librarian seems really awesome but are there any programs that also organize by root key? What do you use? I have found it rather difficult to find a comprehensive list of different software that do this kind of thing. Much thanks =)

Soundminer (PC and mac). It will database all your samples (searchable with cover art!) And embed stacks and stacks of metadata into your WAV/AIF file (including the art). I love it to death but its expensive. Your best bet is SoundminerHD as it's a minimal compromise. And yes, it's the only db I know of that can search by key data

Aww...thanks for that I saw soundminer and 200 is quite steep...wish I was running OSX so I could grab a crack. Really hoping something else would come along in my search. Thanks though. I have heard of people using mixed in key as a way for people to index their samples by key.

Either way for anyone else interested here's a thread I found on KVR in regards to sample organizers. The thread is a bit dated but hopefully someone will find some information that they will find useful. Cheers =)

Total Commander, for everything file-wise. Used it since 1998 I think. Free!

Resonic [Beta]. By far the best sample player/browser I've used. It's still in beta state...and still free!

You're welcome. I have to say that I actually just Hackintoshed my homebrew PC and I'm so delighted with the results. I was kind of in that place you mentioned. Also it's surprising how much better behaved Ableton 9 is. I still have my full Windows 7 on the other drive though because why not.

I use Mixed in Key 2.5 a lot on my PC - it does let you read the key of stuff but you have to double check because when it's wrong... Boy is it ever wrong! lol. The main problem is if you want to auto-write that info into the file name (which it does. Awesome,) it will express it as a letter and number from the circle of fifths. Annoying. I want to see sh*t as like Dbm or whatever. I haven't found ther OSX version yet. Interestingly there are other alternatives on the net.

I also still have my old bpm counter Mixmeister bpm which has been the most accurate software in my experience for beats.

    Try all this free b*llox:

Mixed in Key is the best that I have used. It's up to version 7 now and works 100% of the time

@babybrown , using a 5 year old cracked program and then complaining about it. Why even bring it up??

i used to use mixed in key as an aid during my last (highly digital) years of DJing.... never thought about using it for samples. thanks for that idea, i will dig it out again and get organising. :)

It wasn't all of that. FWIW I use Mixed in Key 2.5 because it does a good enough job and my production computer is not on the internet. As far as I was aware all versions after 2.5 need to be logged in to work. It's great to hear that version 7 is so good. I'll be looking into it. Wasn't trying to look ungrateful or be offensive btw, just wanted to provide some useful links to free stuff for the OP.

    Cheers

Seriously thanks for all the suggestions everyone! As much as I really really like the idea of software that integrates both sample library management and sample key like soundminer since I'm a PC user and no recent cracks for it exist and I don't have a spare 200 dollars lying around, I guess I'm going to go the route of using a combination of Sample Librarian which seems incredibly useful at organizing and mixed in key for when I need to find samples by key.

That being said @babybrown what's it like being on a hackintosh? Was it relatively easy to do or does it take a lot of guesswork. I'm definitely not a techwiz but I have a pretty decent build but I'm not running a pentium processor and it looks like you have to have certain hardware for it to work correctly. That being said it's more of a question of curiosity than anything else since my go to DAW has always been and for the foreseeable future shall remain FL Studio and more recently Maschine rewired in aaand Image Line still haven't really delivered a non-beta mac version yet. Might get more into Ableton soon though once I have the funds for the Push. Still compatability with older vsts make me really ever hesitate making the switch but with the Windows 10 update I really don't want to use Microsoft products.

Cheers everyone and have a great weekend =)
