Audiority - The Abuser is less known and too underhyped! It's a killer though! And I really want To get my hands on the SSL X-Saturator if I only had some spare money...

yeah.. SPL Twin Tube is sick, problem with that is the cpu-tax... so when I use it, I just bounce-down right away.

Decapitator for sure. Been liking Devil-Loc a lot lately.

MJUC is gettin tons of use too... probably cuz I actually bought that.. along with SDRR

dmoll that vsm-3 thing owns the most of all here mentioned (like twin tube, trash2, saturn etc.), PERIOD. never heard about that Audiority + SSL X-Saturator, good thread! btw. for real dirty stuff like distorting midrange bass + percussion i prefere to use valve overdrive pedals.

  9. Give the free Ferric TDS by Variety of Sound a try, you might just dig this great tape saturation plug, and although it is just a 32bit plug, if you can handle that you will not be disappointed. Gain staging is important to get the most out of this. https://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/downloads/

    NI Driver : agressive
I tried a bunch of things, but come back to those ones.

    Freewares :
    Epicentre
    Camel Crush
    FerricTDS
    Distocore DistoFX
    Softube Saturation Knob

i tend to use the same ones all the time

    Trash
    psp vintage warmer2
    SPL Twin Tube
    rob pappen distortion
    or any guitar amp sim.

hardly ever any of the soundtoys ones, it hawks my cpu for some reason.

brainworx's saturation is also nice sometimes.:winker:

Tried a load and don't like any. Imho you need hardware for this kind of thing but you can achieve something decent with some of the above mentioned. Ferric TDS like mentioned above I quite liked. Plus I'm probably doing it wrong lol

well, thats half true for me, You'll never find this kind of plugin on my master track, however I do on individual tracks.
like NI-driver is great to add a little crisp to the overheads.
for basslines I also like loair for subharmonics and rbass from waves for creating upperharmonics...

OK, I checked so far a Buss with 2 Kickdrums (1st for the Attack, 2nd for Body).
Plugins used: FerricTDS, Sausage Fattener, Softube Saturation Knob, Massey Tape Head, PSP Vintage Warmer2 and BX-Saturator.
For me the winner are FerricTDS and PSP Vintage Warmer.
But it depends on the sound material you are using and the gain staging !!!

A lot of ppl, like me, still like Ferric and Vintage Warmer (old but good code) to get that tape compression AND saturation at the same time.
It is more effective than clean compression OR saturation alone.

I forgot the holy grail of realism : Acustica Nebula/Acqua engine plugins. You don't care about CPU usage ?
Try them and you will find most other saturation flat ;)

I tried almost all plugs in those posts. The only credible alternative to Neb/Acqua is still a subtle Decapitator to me. But on master, it would be ONLY Neb/Acqua. Everything else would destroy some micro dynamics.
A long time ago, i tried a simple Nebula console on master...it was a world of difference. Since, i'm hooked ;)
