thanks for your kind words Jesus, i listened to your version 2 and its building upon the first version you did..
my thought was, if you are going to go for the straight drums what about putting eigth beats in so it even more syncopated, if that makes sense? chikka-chikka-chikka-chikka instead of chik chik chik chik? would you be able to upload your second version without the drums please and i could show you what i'm getting at?
okay will wait for newer version.

sounds nice hakim, i like the way you've taken parts out to let it breathe. did you create that bend up/bend down melody from the original part?

hakim has a part that starts at about 0:10 or 0:11 that sounds like its bending up on the pitch wheel of the keyboard.

Hey, man. Even if this was not your first time, the vibe is nice. I understand the feeling you wanted to portray immediately. I got to this party late, but I'll share my 2 cents.

When I first heard the snare in the first demo, I hated it instantly. That's no shade. It just went against the sound of the song, in my opinion. It was too sharp and bright. I would ask you to look up 'New York Drum Compression.' You needed a dirtier snare for this, with some transients floating around. The second choice was much better. And, more swing reduces the stiffness in the track.

The added riffs for your melody were tight. You changed up the flow enough to break the monotony of your melody. That's important. It's slower and fuller, so you're on the right track.

I feel like I still want at least some whole notes for a bassline when we are listening to the main parts (I want to see the verses, not the hooks). You could even just add a few more bass notes to add your piano chords. That frequency range feels like it's less prominent than I think it should be. I really like the addition of the synth and horns. They add a texture to the track that keeps me engaged.

This is a good job, and you should continue. And, definitely share this once some vocals are laid on it.

u should have 2 kick drums
1 kick drum being the higher/mid frequencies.
the second kick should be just purely the sub and low freqs to be utilised as a 'tuned 808'. sidechain compress this with the signal from the initial higher kick.
this is a technique used on countless hiphop tracks. obv not crucial but would def add the lowend this track'll benefit from
    -lower bpm
-work on the timing, i dont know what the technical terms are like triplets/quarter notes but you can def time the kicks better to make it more hip hop. what id suggest is listen to hip hop tracks e.g.
and manually drum them in. take note of where the notes r on the piano roll and in time you will automatically know where to time your hits
    - add randpom samples in the bg- they can be from a movie, tv show or field recordings of people talking at a cafe or whatever. it needs atmosphere and warmth and these are just some of the ways u can do just that
-if your daw came with some groove files- drag them into your drum rack midi clips! or manually do the grooves yourself i.e. mistime the drum hits ever so slightly. countless tutorials on how to do this on youtube and the like.
-learn eq, it will shape all the sounds to your liking
    keep it up mate
i wont lie, the track is pretty sterile at the moment but it can only get better.
    keep us posted.

Yup. Welcome. I was totally blown away by the combination of knowledge and willingness to help when I arrived here. Almost every other audio community seems snobbish by comparison.

Yeah I have a hard time even wrapping my head around all that. Just a very unique and special atmosphere here. For instance, when I'd post a sound design question people would offer to make a patch and upload it. That's pretty exceptional.

You could use Wetransfer for all the files (up to 2 GB for free) or MyAirbridge (up to 20 GB for free, but a little slower).
After that, you'll get a link you can publish over here, or send it by private link to the ones that 're interested.
