    If you really want to use Win10 for music production, you first should use a light version of windows 10
    without any extra stuff. So i recommend to install Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB. Thats the plain OS
    without any apps and stuff which slows down your machine. Also you are able to turn off Updates and
    some other settings and you'll get more rights to change system related features.
    The only problem with this is: You can't get it as private customer since it's made for enterprises
    who need a stable system which doesn't get updates that change the workflow and other stuff
    in future.

    Means:
    If you want it, you have to use it with an activator or similar unlocking method.

    The next is the deactivation and uninstallation of all spy processes if you don't want to share
    your creativity and stuff with Microsoft (and so the NSA). After this you can start customizing
    Win10 to fit your advantages.

    So you guys above Zenarcist,Sideshowbob... want to stay with older versions of Win:rofl:

    At the 2015 Summer NAMM Show‘s Advanced Audio & Application Exchange (A3E) session, Pete Brown of Microsoft gave a keynote that offers a preview of Windows 10 OS.

    http://video.namm.org/general/A3E_Microsoft_Keynote.mp4

    In the video, embedded below, Brown discusses:

    • Audio and MIDI in Windows 10;
    • The new AKAI MPC, which runs a version of Windows 10 Embedded;
    • Xi-Machines custom Windows workstations for audio;
    • Obedia high-performance audio workstations;
    • DAWs that are working on Windows 10;
    • Presonus S1
    • Windows 10 audio performance statistics;
    • Propellerhead Reason on Windows 10;
    • The Windows Mobile port of Propellerhead Figure;
    • Image-Line FL Studio and Windows 10;
    • Bitwig Studio working on Windows 10; and
    • A preview of Microsoft Hololens augmented reality system and virtual reality music software.
    Brown says that, with Windows 10, Microsoft is ‘back in the game for pro audio and music’.

    You try LTSB N Privacy by Murphy78 yet? 1283DC6C0F74055A81E32237C827FC7AB74C35BD

    Who care about WDM performance? ASIO is still better?

    why do you start another Win 10 thread?
    Very useful information, links & tools have been provided. Some people are on Win 10 already, sharing their first impressions.
    The keynote you mention I posted myself. So, I ask you politely to use the search before starting a new thread.
    Though it`s not a question of yours, yes I will stay with 7 & 8.1 for now.

    If your PC is something with i7 Quad core at least 16 GB of RAM and a SSD system drive, just install ASIO drivers and you are optimized out of the box for music production. All the tips and tricks involving stopping services changing swap size are worth trying only if you have a slow cpu, low RAM and a slow hard drive.

    He is popular online and trusted for making windows disks with updates slipstreamed. I thnk he is the one who made the x86 win 7 that fit on CD. This LTSB he make for privacy he use tool i forget name of now, but it show hidden packages. Basically he make more privacy edition of LTSB. It is about 1 gb less size.

    Bananas guide

    Optimising your PC for audio on Windows 10

    Optimising your PC for audio on Windows 10
    All of the tuning tips below should be implemented if you want to achieve high speed, low latency audio recording and playback without glitches with your audio interface. If you are experiencing pops/clicks when recording or playing back audio please try following the instructions below. Please note that the steps below assume that you have the view in Control Panel set to 'Small/Large Icons' rather than 'Categories'.
    General optimisation:
    1. Set your computer's power for high performance

    If your computer is set to conserve energy, the CPU may not be running at full speed all of the time. This can have a detrimental effect on your computer's audio performance. To set your computer's power for high performance:
    - Go to: Control Panel>Power Options
    - Choose "High Performance"
    - Then click the "Change plan settings" button. Make sure both power options are set to "Never".
    2. Disable system sounds
    System sounds can interrupt audio. Ensure that they are disabled by doing the following:
    - Go to control panel and select "Sound"
    - Go to the sounds tab
    - Under sounds scheme, select "No sounds"
    - Click "Apply" then, "OK"
    3. Set processor scheduling to "Background services"
    This will improve the performance of your audio drivers on your computer. To do this:
    - In control panel select "system"
    - Go to "Advanced system settings" and then the "Advanced" tab
    - Click on "Settings.." under Performance to bring up the "Performance Options" window.
    - Go to the "Advanced" tab and set processor scheduling as "Background Services"
    - Click "Apply" then "OK"
    4. Disable Windows Firewall, anti-virus and spyware software
    These should all be disabled to ensure that no interferences occur during audio recording or playback and to ensure that maximum resources are available. To remain secure while your firewall and antivirus disabled, it is advisable to temporarily disconnect from any internet connections when working with audio. This will also make sure that no network adapters are conflicting with any audio.
    Advanced optimisation:
    If you wish to optimise your system further, or you are using a system that is particularly lacking in resources you can follow the tips below for advanced optimisation.
    Disable Visual effects
    The visual features in Windows 10 can use resources that could otherwise help to improve audio performance. As a start, it is good idea to disable some of the visual features by doing the following:
    - Bring back up the "Performance Options" window by following step 3 above and clicking on the "Visual Effects" tab and selecting "custom".
    - Untick: "Animate windows when minimising and maximising" to help prevent glitches when minimising and maximising. You can also experiment with disabling other visual effects in the custom list to see how they improve audio performance.
    - Once finished, press "OK"
    If you wish to optimise your Windows 10 graphics for the best performance use the "Adjust for best performance" option.
    Disable Network cards
    Sometimes, network card drivers can cause problems with audio. A good troubleshooting step is to try disabling your network adapters in Device Manager, and then test local audio (like an .mp3) and see if you continue to have issues. This is also a good optimisation step in general. Disabled adpaters can easily be re-enabled at any point.
    Disable Windows services
    One way in which you can make more resources available to improve audio performance, is to disable unnecessary Windows 10 services as these use valuable resources. The following site has a comprehensive guide to the services running on Windows 10 and helps locate the services that are safe to disable: Windows 10 Service Configurations by Black Viper
